Stretching a sending session, is it possible?, A "20 messages per send" cap is put on my mail server.

Is it possible to set up thebat to send a batch of, say, 700+ messages, slowly over an hour? Or I should put it this way, is it possible to pause a few seconds before sending the next message in queue?

My server provider is putting on a cap that only allows 20 messages per send, beyond that every message takes like 10 seconds to send. I'm trying to find a way to work with this limitation, or around it.

Any suggestions?

A follow up on the topic:

My hosting service provider (bluehost.com) insisted that thebat is faking to send mass-mailing emails as individual messages. They claimed that thebat is actually sending out messages using cc/bcc instead. They say they "confirmed" it.

Any comment?

It is possible to delay the sending of messages, but only with the current beta and even then it means a lot of manual interfering to get the job done.

To be quite honest, TB wouldn't be my tool of choice to send 700+ messages in a mass mailing, I'd prefer some mailing list tool for that.

When you use TB's mass mailing feature properly you can send unique messages to individual contacts, with not only the headers (every message has a uniqyue message-id) but also the message body personalized. There's no way that be done by sending a single message with a lot of CC and BCC addresses.
Of course it is possible to send CC and BCC messages with TB.

providers are cautious bacause such activities may put their smtp in spam blacklists, then all their users will suffer. Indeed I do not say you're spamming.
But even if you find a solution and send messages in small groups, they'll likely stop that soon.

Windows 2000 and later have their own smtp server (except home versions), you may use it instead of your provider smtp. It's normally not installed by default, but you can add it via
Control Panel -> Add/remove programs -> Add/remove Windows components -> add Internet Information Services with SMTP selected.

Thanks for the replies.

First of all, we do not spam. We are running a small but legit software company that needs to send out mass email (is 700+ really a "mass"?) to our paying customers once in a while (like every few months). I'm just as afraid of being labeled as spammer as the hosting provider, because we completely rely on emailing as our essential marketing/distribution/service channel. If our domain is blacklisted, we are doomed. So that you know where we are coming from.

Is 700+ messages really that a big number? I'm sure we are at the bottom of business hierarchy. Probably 99% of business out there should have bigger mailing lists than us, no?

Also, the server provider actually allows 750 emails per hour. I only need about that many a day when we are busy. So this "20 messages a send" cap is a very strange restriction to me. I can't really understand its reasoning.

I have tested again on our server by manually composing 20+ messages and sending them out as a test. The cap is still there, so the level1 support's explanation was false (the claim that thebat's faking unique email and if I compose the messages manually it would work blahblah). It seems to me like a hard cap on all send sessions above 20 messages.

What would be the alternative to thebat then? I always thought thebat's features are adequate for the mass-mailing purpose - besides its weak handling of group organizing (address book).

BTW, the hosting provider has been pushing the idea of using a few php programs that they endorse. I'm very reluctant to the idea. I don't want an open mailing list php program. We don't want an open mailing discussion list. And we need to CONTROL and CLASSIFY each customers' status so we can easily identify and customize the messages to his group. And the data have to be changed frequently. And it has to be portable - who knows how long we will use this server provider. I'm very uncomfortable about using a script program on a faraway server for this task.

So, I'm looking for something that can be customized with templates, and has excellent group organizing features, and now preferably has extra features to defeat the 20-messages cap. What would you experienced guys would recommend?

use Windows SMTP, and you can send as many messages as you need without restrictions, as they'll not pass through your provider SMTP.

Greetings bigg one,

Could you please explain the configuration to be done on the Windows IIS as well as on the Bat!

The Bat seems do not have this kind of founction, 20 mail per send. There is Dreammail which can 30seconds or anytime per send, it is better than 20mails per send. The bat should learn this from it.
