I need totally separate profiles.  I've been trying to get used to Windows Live Mail since Vista and our email is in a mess.  There is no email privacy amongst users and some users don't keep up with filters and we have a big tangle of messages.  Does Bat have totally separate profiles for various email accounts?

Will I need Pro?

It depends a bit what you really want.
With TB every account has its own inbox, outbox, sent mail and other folders. Also every account has its own templates, you can personalize every account.
That more less takes care of the profile issue, but it doesn't prevent user1 to use account2 to send mail or to read mail in account3. So it depends a bit on how important the privacy bit is.

It used to be possible to set passwords on separate accounts, but as I'm currently using a feature that's incompatible with that, I can't guide you in that. But it used to work just fine.

The easiest way to have every user using his own profile would be to give everybody his/her own password protected windows account. That would place the message base in the windows user profile and therefore inaccessible to other users. That should work with Windows Mail too. (And with about every other mail client I can think of.)

What could be done with The Bat! is that you set TB to use different registry settings for every user, that can be done from the command line and can be made automatic by creating a shortcut on the desktop for every user. This should be combined with the Pro version, because otherwise you wouldn't have a secure enough privacy protection, but with the pro versuion you can encrypt your message base to your personal passphrase.

Thanks kindly.  It sounds like The Bat will fit my needs.  We don't need password security, just separate profiles so all the messages to all the accounts are not delivered to one inbox.

Use the undocumented command line /Reg:Something for your shortcut, where Something is an alternate location in the registry where TB stores its stuff.

I suppose you know how to create and alter shortcuts under Windows.

The target of your new shortcut should look like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\The Bat!\thebat.exe" "/Reg:Yash"
Where TB will storte its stuff per default in the registry tree:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!
the new shortcut have TB store its stuff under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!Yash
thus enabling you to run with different settings for different users on the same Windows account and even to run multiple instances of TB simultaneously.

Hi Roelof,

Thank you. I know how to alter shortcuts on desktops, but am not aware how to create :-( unfortunately. Basically, i am looking to do the needful. I would like to install 2 TB - say A and say B. Hence, thru 2 TB's - i can use A for 1 company and B for say another company. This way, things would be easier for me... hence, there would be the need for 2 data for TB - that is for A and B.

How do the same and would be obliged if you could assist me as i just use TB for all my business emails which are in pretty high quantity.

To create a shortcut on the desktop is easy:

Start -> All programs -> The Bat! -> Right mouse button -> Copy to -> Desktop
I'm using a non English version of Windows, so I might be somewhat off compared to the real names, but this should guide you far enough.
