Which type of folders to use and what am I missing out of?, POP3 / IMAP / Common

Somewhere I have read that when you choose to use common folders instead of the folders within an account, one is missing out of some features.

Can someone tell me what they are?

Currently I am using IMAP for my main account and some POP3 for others and to keep things organized I have some common folders where the POP3 accounts are putting incoming and sent messages (rules offcourse).

Before I relied on IMAP because I needed access to my full bunch of emails from everywhere, however that restraint has gone and I will be happy with local (common) folders. This should speed up things I guess. But I do not want to miss out of important/handy features when I store everything in common folders.

TIA
Paul

Due to their nature common folders aren't associated with any account, so when you're moving messages to a common folder, their association with their originating account is lost too.
That means that a reply to such a message will come from the default account and not necessarily from the account that received the message.
It also means that when your account settings state that a message will be deleted from the serbver as soon as the message is deleted that won't work anymore, because when you delete the message from the common folder the association with the originating account has already been lost.
However, it isn';t that these features don't work anymore, but they don't work anymore for the messages that have been moved to a common folder (or to a different account.)

Thanx Roelof. I thought I would be missing out on other stuff also, glad to see that isn't the case.

When I read this I think I can solve my problems with this by using (Quick)Templates, color-groups and templates per common folder to set the "from" address (or possibly account) when reply-ing or forwarding as the common folders will allways be using a specific set of settings.

Hmm I will be playing with this. Thanx.

BTW: The folder management of TB is so good I have no problems whatsoever by moving messages around to and from different accounts, common folders etc. This is really a great experience when one is used to Outlook, thunderbird and the likes...
