Filter not working...

I have a basic filter set up with an older version of The Bat and it's not working presently.

It's set to filter for a string found in the text of the message.

If I re-filter, manually, it works. But it won't work on its own automatically.

Are there any things in particular I should be looking out for?

Maybe at the options tab of the filter you've got 'Use this filter for manual re-filtering only' enabled?

Nope, I checked and that's not the cause.
Manual filtering is not enabled.
'Active' is enabled, that's it.

try to delete the filter, restart thebat and redefine it again

I believe I figured out what the problem was.

The account that has the filter was set up simply as a 'shell account', an account to hold filtered e-mails, but not an account to log in with a username and password.

It seems that filters in this 'shell account' aren't run unless they are run manually.
In other words, e-mails that are filtered into this account don't trigger the filters associated with this account.

If I am correct, I don't think anything is mentioned about this in the Help files.

Maybe someone can confirm my hypothesis?

A couple more easy questions.
How can I have e-mail that has been filtered into a folder NOT show up in bold (unread)?

And along the same lines, how can I have The Bat not have its icon flap its wings at the bottom of the Windows screen, when messages have been filtered into this same folder? In other words, I don't want to be notified when I have spam, I just want the e-mail to be quietly deposited into its spam folder.

filters are triggered on send on receive for the account, but not when a message is redirected to an account from another. If you want to put the message into a particular folder of the 'shell account', specify that in the filter action of the main account.

About unread, in the filter actions add a new action
Flags / Mark message as read
before the action to move the message.

BTW instead of using a separate account to hold filtered mail, it's maybe better to use a common folder.

I think I need to set things up as I now have. The reason is as follows.
I have about eight or so 'shell accounts'.

They have been set up to send messages (log in first) but not receive any (no log ins).

I need to be able to send messages with a bunch of different e-mail addresses. If I used the method you are suggesting, I don't think I could achieve that.
