FRUSTRATED!, Messages wouldn't delete. When sending messages, a copy would be placed in the Outbox and would continually send every few minutes

Until recently, we have been using The Bat Pro v4.0.18. We upgraded to v4.1.11 and imported a backup from v4.0.18. We immediately struck problems.
1) Messages wouldn't delete
2) When sending messages, a copy would be placed in the Outbox and would continually send every few minutes unless we manually deleted the message from the Outbox.

We also use Voyager and also upgraded that to v4.1.11 and had the exact same problems.

By the way, we also tried upgrading to v4.2 and it crashed every time we tried to set the password.

At the moment, I am seriously considering dumping The Bat and advising all our clients to do likewise unless these problems are sorted out quickly!

Hopw did you upgrade?
How did you import the backup from 4.0.18 into 4.1.11?

The message that stays in the outbox looks like an anti virus problem. My guess is that the virus scanner acts like a proxy smtp server and doesn't tell TB that the message has been received properly.
That way the message stays in the outbox and TB will try it again.
Are you getting any error messages in your log?
Do you see any problems with your protocol log?

I upgraded by doing a clean install, i.e. uninstalling the previous version 4.0.18 and installing v4.1.11. I then imported the backup using the import tool in TB.

In the past when there have been occasions to reinstall v4.0.18, there has been no problems at all with either importing from a backup or sending emails out (and the same antivirus program was used).

I have to admit that I never thought of checking the logs and now can't since I've gone back to 4.0.18

Your upgrade procedure was wrong.
Ritlabs has always advised to install a new version on top of the old version, not by ininstalling etc.
In your case this went wrong as 4.1 uses a different message base format (and therefore a slightly different backup format) compared to 4.0
(The altered message base format with TB now being able to handle folder larger than 2 GB)
When installing 4.1 on top of 4.0 the message base will be converted, but 4.1 will run into problems with older backups.

I can reproduce your problem with installing TB with OTFE enabled. After entering the password the program stops.

Roelof, I'm very grateful to you for this. I'll give it a try asap.

The crashing on a fresh install problem had been reported on the beta list earlier today. I've confirmed it on the bug tracker.

Roelof, thanks to you the problem has been solved. I've even been upgrade to v4.2. Although I'll be even happier once the problem of the crashing on a fresh install has been solved  :D

Very many thanks. I can now attempt to repeat this experience with Voyager.

Roelof, are you saying that your repeatable crash result is from a fresh install, and it's only crashing when OTFE is enabled? The encryption is one of the main reasons I'm evaluating The Bat.

Are you suggesting installing a previous version first for new customers who are evaluating The Bat? Because a new customer will visit the RIT website and unless instructed to do otherwise, will download and the latest version.

I've spent hours trying to install the latest version. I guess I don't give up easy!

Yep, that's exeactly what I said.
Just now I saw that a beta was released for a bug fix, but I haven't tried that yet, so I can't comment on that, but Ritlabs is aware of the problem.

I have tested new beta and used it in OTFE installation, problem is fixed and new version will be published soon
