Bug report: useless "mailto:" added to the addressbook, Since tehbat v4, it no longer handles adding new email in the old way

I'm pretty sure I have read some similar post before from the mailing list. Anyway, here's the problem:

Can anyone explain to me if there's any logical reason for thebat v4 to add an extra "mailto:" to the email address when adding an email to the address book? This "mailto:" has to be manually removed, or thebat won't be able to send the email out. So, I, as an user, have to manually remove it every time I add an email address from the message.

What's odd is that before v4, ritlab's programmers used to have the common sense about these things, but now we are stuck with this bug. Yes, I'm calling it a bug. It's newly introduced into v4, and it's a pita, and it's not recognized.

Please chime in and let ritlabs know how you feel, if you are extremely annoyed at this bug like I do.

Can't confirm that behaviour, when I add aan entry to the address book I find no mailto: parts.
Can you describe the steps to reproduce the error?

Hi Roelof,

Thanks for the reply.

It's really easy: it happens when you want to add an email address from the text content of a message by right clicking on an email address and choose "add to addressbook." You guys must thought people only need to do so with the "from" "to" columns...

Allow me to explain why this is important to me: my work requires me to process email orders, and I have to add/check emails from the text content. Before TB V4, I can easily add/check email address against the existing address book easily, but now not only it's not possible to check against the address book (by adding an email to addressbook, if there's already an entry, thebat brings up the existing info), thebat also now adds an redundant "mailto:" to the addressbook which has to be removed manually for each and every entry.

I believe if ritlabs can fix the redundant "mailto:" bug, it will all work fine again.

Please bring back the old pre v4.0 behavior. Pretty please....

I had to search quite a bit in order to find a html message that included a mailto:address, but I can confirm your problem.

I've added it to bugtrack, don't know when the developers find the time to fix it.

Thanks, Roelof.

It's not limited to html though. It doesn't work with email address in ANY text content. The email address doesn't have to have the "mailto:" prefix. You can write any fake email address (e.g., baby@home.com) and save it as draft and test the bug.

It's a very common operation - if you need to do this task, that is. ;)

I actually submitted the bug a while back already, but ritlabs appears to be ignoring it, that's why I'm starting the thread, trying to get more people to notice it...

That's something I cannot confirm.
When I pick the baby address from the message that the forum sends me to inform me of your new posting then it's added just fine to my address book, without any mailto: add-ons.

Roelof, you are right. Something funny is going on with my desktop PC it seems. On my laptop the problem only occurs in html...
