Procedure for Upgrade to v.4.2.10, Please advise on how to upgrade from v.4.2.6

For some reason I've been unable to find a tutorial on how to upgrade. Will the new version simply install over the current one I'm using [v.4.2.6]? Or after backing up current version do I delete it and install the new v.4.2.10 and use the "restore" function?

I thought I better ask so as to minimize any risk. Thanks in advance.

close theBat, zip your mail folder and installation folder just in case, then install the new version on top of the existing.

Zipping is used as 'Make a backup with Winzip (or a similar program)'

The installation folder is where theBat is installed, typically
"C:\Program Files\The Bat!\"
(If not there and you can't find, search your disk for thebat.exe - the folder where thebat.exe resides is the installation folder).

In WindowsExplorer right-click the installation folder and sel ect 'Add to archive', 'Add to zip', 'Add to zip folder' or something alike, depends on what archiver (WinZip, WinRar etc.) you have installed.
If you do not have any archiver, simply copy the installation folder to another place to have a backup.
A backup of the installation folder is needed if after the upgrade the new version does not behave correctly, in such case you may want to revert to the older version.

Which is the mail folder you can see fr om theBat, click
Options / Prefernces -> System and see 'Mail directory'
Backup the mail folder as explained above. It's recommended to use an archiver to reduce the size of the backup. As the mail folder keeps everything important (emails, filters, address books etc.) , it's recommended to backup this folder regularly.

Before making backups, make sure theBat is closed.

Many thanks -- update was done successfully.

Last question:  I'm currently using Win7 RC. After a fresh install of Windows 7 late October with the official release of Windows, I will do a fresh install of thebat!.  At that point will I use the Restore function from a thebat! Backup?

I would do it as follows:
Before reinstalling Windows, backup the mail folder as explained above. Install Win7, then install theBat. Then close theBat and simply replace the mail folder with the backup you have.

You may as well use the built in backup/restore functions, but many report various problems with them. So better do it manually, this far less likely to be problematic.

Understood. Again, many thanks for the good advice regarding doing "manual install" with a backup copy of the thebat! mail folder.
