Saving Program Settings?, How to save toolbar, menu, preferences, etc.

Is there a way to backup:

1. Options in the 'Preferences' setting
2. Toolbar & menu customizations?

The backup feature via the 'Tools' menu works great for my email account preferences, but it doesn't save the items mentioned above. Am I missing something or is this not available? Thanks.

backup the files in the root of the mail folder (not in sub-folders as there only account-specific data is stored), and the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT

Thanks, bigg one. One more question. I am doing this because I want to reinstall TB without on-the-fly encryption. When I restore the files you mentioned above, encryption is still enabled. Do you know which registry key and/or file is responsible for that? Or is it even possible to backup settings from an encrypted installation to a non-encrypted installation?

The only way to convert from otfe to plain is via an internal backup via the Tools menu.
Next you uninstall TB (or delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT tree from the registry)
Run TB again and restore the backup
A backup with the proper setting should save the general settings too.

But that's the problem, the internal backup via the tools menu does not save my custom menus, toolbar settings, and general preferences (startup at windows, etc.) Or is it supposed to? When I do the internal backup, I have all options checked, including global, but when I restore the .tbk file, all preference and menu settings are back to default. I spent a long time customizing the menus and toolbars and would like to preserve those. Thanks for all your help so far...

Edit: I just followed your directions and my preferences were restored but my view settings (toolbars, menus, windows split mode, tabs, etc) were not. They revert to default. How do you preserve those settings?

It's been a while since I've used it, but the trick used to be to restore the backup, close TB without changing or checking any settings and start TB again.
Without the internal backup it isn't possible to restore any settings from encrypted to unencrypted, because there's no tool availble to decrypt TB's stuff without using TB itself.

Just tried to restore a backup.
TB didn't restore interface settings etc, even didn't restore my registration and it should do that.
Also it didn't restore my address book and with 1700 entries that's not something I'd like to loose.
Definitely a bug.

Thanks for helping out, Roelof, and replying so quickly.

Must be a bug. My address book was restored, but I am redoing all my interface settings. BTW, it looks like the development team is Russian, as does your name... is English your first or second language?

The development team is Moldavian, that's not Russian, but it's close.
My name is Dutch (and so am I)

Ahh, Americans, we are so provincial. Many (most?) of us can't speak English properly. Your English is wonderful. Thanks again for everyone's help.

Moldavian? More Romanian than Russian, I think. Hope they don't get offended being called Russians. :)
