Mail Redirect in 5.0 ?, How to edit text in redirected mails?

Hello,

in v4 it was possible to redirect mails and edit the message text before sending.

In v5 this is not possible?

I have a message with some images attached. When forwarding the message, all attachments are packed into one Message01.eml file. When redirecting the mail, i cannot edit the message text (since v5).

Does anyone have an idea, how to forward the mail with original attachments or how to edit the messagetext in a redirected mail?

Best regards, Pit

Yes, you're right - it's a serious bug (hope RitLabs rectifies the same on a war footing.) :(

I think that's a WAD (works as designed) The essence of a redirect is that send the message unaltered to somebody else. The received headers etc will remain unchanged, when you edit the message you're no longer redirecting it.

However, there is a workaround, save it as draft, go to the outbox open the message and edit it. When you view the headers you'll see that all headers added by mail servers have been removed after editing and also that the message has a new Message-ID.

A redirect is sending an identical message to another recipient, generally messages created by somebody else. As soon as you're editing it, you're falsifying messages with somebody else' name in the from header. I  think it's good for TB that it doesn't let you do that without you being aware that that isn't a normal redirect behaviour.

Thanks for the mail.

Redirect worked different in V4 and thats a very important feature for me. If Ritlabs changed the way of redirecting in V5 it's very bad for me personal.

Forwarding a message would also work for me. But all attachments are compressed into one file when forwarding a mail. If i could forward a mail with the original attachments it would be fine for me too. But since V5 i miss this (for me) very important feature!

That should be posible with forwarding.
TB has two ways of forwarding: mime forwarding, that appears to be your default forwarding style. So you could try 'alternative forward'. If that does what you want you can switch the default forwarding method, by unchecking the bottom option for the forward template.
That's an account property, so you'll need to do that for every account.

Thanks Roellof,

i changed the setting and can forward mails with edited text now! I should have noticed this setting some years earlier ;)

The Developers seem to have confused the 'Redirecting' feature with the 'Resending' function. 'Resending' demands that the subject matter not be editable as the objective is to send the message to the same person more than once.

However, 'Redirecting' comprises of the Sender sending the same (not identical) message to one or more Recipients. I emphasize 'not identical' since a mail initially sent to Mr. ABC would start off as 'Dear Mr. ABC' Now, when this same (not identical) message is to be Redirected to Mr. XYZ, how can Mr. XYZ too, be possibly greeted as Dear Mr. ABC. So, 'Redirecting' on V5 needs to be fully editable and restored to just the way it used to function on the previous V4.
