Exit BUG in 5.08, System freeze when exit using X

Just installed TB 5.08. If I exit using the X button (right corner of the title bar), my whole system freezes for a few seconds until TB exits! Using Message | Exit or Alt-X or Alt-F4 exits just fine. But the system hangup but with the X button is repeatable 100% of the time.

Which OS are you running - can't see that issue on Windows 7 (SP-1)  :|

XP SP3. TB 4.x never had this problem. Only started happening after the upgrade.

I guessed as much - most of these bugs seem to be affecting XP Users.

Interesting, things are working better now. There is still a noticeable delay when click X before control is released to the user, but it is less than a second. Certainly livable.

Uh, spoke too soon. Not only has the problem persisted, but I also noticed the same behavior when closing an email with the X. System is completely unresponsive for 2-3 seconds until the message closes.

EVERY SINGLE X hangs the system!! Address Book, Maintenance Center, Folder Properties, Options|Preferences, etc etc, etc, ALL hang my system for up to 10 seconds when clicking on the X to close the window! I have never ever seen this happen before in any application.

BTW it's been a long time since I have had the need to post here. I remember from way back that RIT rarely if ever responded to forum posts. Are they any better these days or is support hit or (mostly) miss?

On XP Pro SP3 the [X] close button doesn't hang my system, just causes a delay and then TB! closes....it's annoying. Same with the other buttons (minimize and restore down) next to it. Only with TB! v5.

J Wayne,

I take it back. My System just hung as well. First proper hang (lock up..so hard reset) in years, so not impressed at all.

Accordingly, I've just gone back to using v4.2.44.2. Can't be putting up with this kind of trouble at this stage. Perhaps this is where some users (XP Pro SP3 ones) will have to say to hell with it and 'stick' with the last 4.x.xx version and forget about v5 or future updates. I know some developers are starting to drop support for XP now, although many do realize that XP still has a 50% share of the OS market, so it'll be a long while before it fades away. But it's up to each developer at the end of the day. I have no idea how RIT could have let this loose as for me the problems are immediately evident, so hardly needed weeding out.

Simon - did you experience any problems downgrading? Hitting the X button is so engrained into my brain that I think I'll go back to last v4 version.

I have the same problem on XP Pro SP3 (The Bat! v5.0.8). Every [X] freeze system.
I tried upgraded version from v4 > v5 and new v5 version. The same problem so I'm waiting for newer version.

Hi

I have had no problems at all 'downgrading'. I deleted the thebat.exe form the install folder first, then ran the v4.2.44 installer. Works as it did, and no new issues.

As I didn't sign up to the beta testers group :!: I'll be hanging on a while, and waiting to see where RIT take TB!

I am also having the same problem

I am on Win XP SP3

My system also hangs when checking for emails

When are ritlabs going to release a patch ?

This issue has reported to have been fixed in a beta build - v5.09.7

Just installed it and ran it.

There is definitely a huge difference in Startup time, its quite fast.

Exiting now, does not hang the system (Check)
Check Emails does not hang the system (Check)

Thanks alot Battie

Ill keep testing it so see how it runs in the long run.

I'm glad there's an improvement - if the RitLabs guys are passing by, they'll be happy to note your reply, as well.

BTW, something is waiting in your inbox that could possibly interest you. :D

cheers,
