Apparent confuision in the InBox index, Message Up/Down from Message View window gets confused and can't find next message.

The Bat! Version 5.0.8
under Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3

Sorry,  I  should have reported this ages ago, as the bug seems to have  been  in  the  last several versions of The Bat!, but I keep putting it off because it's hard to describe.

Basically, something goes wrong with the indexing system of the InBox so that actions in the message view window that are supposed to move up or down the list get confused. This includes Next message, Previous Message, Delete and go to next, Delete and go to previous,  and  just  Delete,  which  in  this version seems to be mapped to "Delete and Go to Next".

What happens is that instead of moving to the next message up or down the queue (under whatever sort option is currently active), instead I get a blank "No message Loaded" screen. Trying to move up or down from that screen seems to jump to some random message. I don't know if it's realkly random, but it looks that way to the casual user.

I  think  this  only  happens  with  the InBox folder or derived virtual  folders  based  on  InBox. Running the maintenance centre integrity check doesn't reveal any errors.

While I'm at it, I'd really like to redefine the delete key action when  a  message  view  window  has focus so that the action is to close  the  message,  move it to trash, and give focus to the main program  message list. is there any way to modify keyboard mapings like that?

if You use Message Viewer window, it uses its own message list sorting, so enable message list in menu View | Messages and set sorting you want
