TB (1.6.1!) does not fetch GMail since 3 days!, It EVER worked, but now it does not receive eMail, although it sends Ok.

Got it many years ago with my computer, and it EVER worked 100%.

But last 3 (three) days does NOT get mail from Gmail.

It used to report (as per log):
" 29/07/2015, 11:59:43: FETCH - receiving mail messages 29/07/2015, 11:59:43: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake
29/07/2015, 11:59:43: FETCH - TLS handshake complete
29/07/2015, 11:59:43: FETCH - connected to POP3 server
29/07/2015, 11:59:44: FETCH - authenticated (plain)
29/07/2015, 11:59:44: FETCH - 0 messages in the mailbox, 0 new
29/07/2015, 11:59:44: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received"

Now it says:
" 31/07/2015, 19:05:48: FETCH - receiving mail messages
31/07/2015, 19:05:48: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake
31/07/2015, 19:05:49: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received"

No comments, no error message, but if I log in vía WebMail there are messages available!

On GMail, setting says "Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since" and "Status: IMAP is disabled".

GMail requieres SSL on Port 995. The Port is Ok, but SSL?
At TB the setting possibilities for authentication are 1. Regular, 2. MSN, 3. MD5 APOP, and 4. MD5 CRAM
Which one should be used? I had a test with each one, but no results!
I repeat: TB sends mail Ok, but just now it does NOT receive it!

Add: on my mobile phone the mail comes in Ok. For the test I powered the phone OFF to make sure it does not interfere with the process.

Your assistance will be appreciated!
Regards,
Fredo

As far as SSL, I use "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)" and Regular for Authentication.

Since I also access my Gmail account on other devices via IMAP I include "recent:" in front of User email address in TB Receive Mail section. If you don't, Gmail will not download POP3 as new mail since it thinks it's been read on other devices and thus not new.

Thank you, Larry, for your effort!

Checked all according to your post. Had to change the Authentication to "Regular", no other changes.

But still cannot pop my mail. There is a message, New and Unread, that I can see accesing vía WebMail, but it does NOT pop down! The log in TB reads:

01/08/2015, 11:14:22: FETCH - receiving mail messages
01/08/2015, 11:14:22: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake
01/08/2015, 11:14:22: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

I wonder that after the handshake it just finishes the connection. Before the present situation it used to say that handshake was completed, that authentication going on, that there were (or not) messages, etc., etc.
Seems that the handshake process is at fault ...

Any ideas?

You, and all others, will be welcome!

:-)

It looks like Gmail POP settings has changed since last I looked at it. Mine too have the option checked but it has a rather old date. Does yours have a date?

Have you tried the enable from now on?

I also have mark message as read when downloaded via POP.

It looks like the handshake terminates for some reason. Have you tried POP settings on another client to see it those settings work on that client?

Fredo, when you check this forum section you will find that many people are having trouble retrieving mail from Gmail. There is a problem with a new type of certificate that Gmail is using.

Larry! You got involved ... so many thanks for it!

Yes, my POP used to state a date from which it was enabled. I Changed it to "POP is enabled for all mail", also had  a try with "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" (then it says the date). None of them works at present.
:-(

Both marking and not marking messages when read I did test. None works now. Before now it was working with "mark read messages".

And indeed It looks like the handshake terminates for some reason. I'll follow your suggestion and will try to set POP up with an Hotmail account ... will tell you if it works!

Thank you very much!

Daniel!

If GMail is troublesome to many people due to some new type of certificate than GMail would do well giving some solution! Unfortunately I found no answers in GMails Help Forum. But now i try again, quering "Trouble with retrieving mail from Gmail". Let's see what the opinions, and maybe find some answer ...

Thank you, Daniel!

Well: had a test on Hotmail. But Hotmail requires using SSL, but my Bat only offers "Regular", "STARTTLS" and "TLS".

No understanding between Hotmail and The Bat! Hotmail requires a gentle "Must say Hello first"!   :-)

Going to have lunch, will continue later!

Bye!
Fredo

I have an Outlook account (I think the same as Hotmail settings).

I use "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)" and port 995 for receiving.  For send "Secure to regular port (STARTTTLS)" and port 587.

No, it's only troublesome to users of outdated email clients, like Eudora and your and my 10+ year old versions of The_Bat (apparently modern versions of The_Bat work just fine with Gmail POP). It would be great if Google would fix it, but I wouldn't count on it.

Daniel said: "No, it's only troublesome to users of outdated email clients, ..."
And it seems he is right!

His words gaved impulse to download the new version of TB. Had it installed, an voila! GMail worked right from the start!
And more so: the new installation found all my old folders, messages, and downloaded (again!) all the stuff from GMail, etc., etc.
:)

Thus, so far, I'm done! And saying Thankyou to  Larry and Daniel! I appreciated your help!

Having tamed this GMail, I'll see if @hotmail.com can get accessed as well. But that is not urgent, so I'll take it with much calm ...

Thank you!

Fredo

Good to hear that your problem is solved, Fredo!

Did you use Quick Templates in your old version of The_Bat, and Sorting Office filters? And if so, do they still work? I am also condering to upgrade, but I am concerned that some important things may no longer work..
