password change problems, can't get it changed

My husband had to change his Google/Gmail password, but he can't get The Bat to recognize the new password.  He has changed it in the "transport" screen of the account properties.  Is there any place else that he has to change it?  Thank you.

One other thing.  When Google was having him make his account more secure, he took away permission for "unsafe" apps to access Google.  Could that have caused the problem with The Bat not being able to access Gmail?

Hello, Ann,

You might ask him to change OAUTH to Regular under the authentication options for Receiving mail.  A user had a similar problem recently and that fixed it, but that person was not using most current version, which I assume your husband is?  I think this is part of Gmail's strategy on not allowing email clients to access gmail unless a security setting in Gmail is lowered. (I've seen Yahoo doing similarly.)

This happened to me a few months ago and I just kept refreshing the connect page for 20-30 times and it finally took. I don't like such solutions, though, as they provide no repeatable solution. Good luck.

Thank you, David.  I checked his settings and it was already set to "regular".  However, I suggested he go into Google security settings and allow third party apps to have access and that worked.  However, Google claims those apps are unsafe and I don't think The Bat is unsafe, but Google apparently doesn't think any third party app is good enough for them.  I really am tired of Google, etc. forcing me to use only their programs or I end up having problems, etc.  I really just would like to make my own decisions about how I do my work and access email.

I'm glad things are okay, Ann. Setting the Google access would have been my next suggestion, as I had to do that a few months ago when I upgraded to version 8 of TB!. And I fully concur: we rely too much on Google. When friends ask me for suggestions on free email, I always recommend outlook.com: it has a cleaner, simpler interface and avoids all the difficulty of dealing with Google's idea of what email should be. I also have found office.com to be an easier interface for online documents and spreadsheets. I have a gmail account, but it's strictly a secondary account. regards,
david .
