Less-secure app problem, Gmail IMAP

I had my Gmail account set up in TB! for some time now. It has been configured under POP3 protocol.
Now I want to change it to IMAP4 due to installing another copy/instance of the mailer on another device (a laptop)
I changed the setting in the Gmail account to IMAP4 as well as in the email account in the mailer.
Now when I click on receiving messages I am asked to enter the password in a pop-up window.
I put the correct password however the pop-up keeps showing up asking again for the password.
Is it because I changed from POP3 configuration to IMAP4 under the same email account?
Do I need to create a new email account under the same email address with IMAP4 as the protocol?
If I do create a new one, how can the two reside at the same time in the mailer?

Since you indicate you don't need them to coexist, I recommend removing the POP account completely before creating the IMAP account instead of having both together. If there are messages to save, create a local folder and move them there first. After setting up the IMAP account, you can move them back. .

Apparently Google have decided that The Bat is not secure enough!

Less secure app blockedGoogle blocked the app that you were trying to use because it doesn't meet our security standards. Some  apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which makes your  account more vulnerable. You can turn off access for these apps, which  we recommend, or turn on access if you want to use them despite the  risks. Google will automatically turn this setting OFF if it's not being  used.
