How to change highlight color of a selected but non-focused email?

When I sel ect one of the items in my email list, that item gets highlighted and its content is displayed in frame below.  That highlighting is obvious and very easy to see.  However, when I click on the content of that email in the lower frame, the highlighting changes to a color that is barely discernable fr om the background color.  This often makes it very difficult to find which email is actually selected in the list, especially if I happen to have many emails and happen to scroll the list up or down.  This problem exists regardless of which color theme I am using. How do I change the color of the highlighting when the focus is somewhere other than on the email list frame?

Most things in The Bat can be configured, changed or otherwise manipulated by right-clicking on them and picking the appropriate function from the context menu that appears.

In this case, right-clicking in that message list will produce a menu that includes 'Color group'. Within this 'Color group' sub-menu, a mark shows which color group is currently active (by default, that's 'Generic group'). Pick the command 'Manage Color Groups' from the bottom of this sub-menu and sel ect the group that you've just determined to be the active one.

Then, press Edit and switch to the second tab, 'Colors and Styles'. Fr om its 'Item:' pulldown menu, choose the relevant type of item ('selected' would be my guess) and set its style and colors as desired using the options below it.

You didn't mention your version number but this is how it works in my v8. It's probably not much different in earlier or later versions.

Daniel,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide all the details.  It worked perfectly.  I figure TB has an option for just about everything, but there are so many things that I often don't know the correct term for what I am looking for or where to begin looking.

Now that I've gotten that solved I tried to do the same thing for the mailboxes in the left frame of the TB main window.  How would I go about changing the highlight colors for them too?

I'd start by right-clicking on an account there, or on a folder if you want to change the colors of a single folder. From there it's the same story as above.

Yes, I tried that, but it leads to the same place as right-clicking from the message list.  It seems like the only items whose background colors can be changed are the message list items :-(

The dialog was originally designed for the message list but it also works on folder names in the Accounts panel.

This is very strange.  I was using TB 9.3.0.2 and I couldn't get the background colors for the mailboxes to change.  However, as I was replying to you I noticed that a new version of TB (v9.3.2) had just been released so I installed it.  As if by magic the background colors I had set up for the mail list were then also present in the account tree!  Thanks for all your help.

Thank you Ray for asking this question. I've been pondering on the same issue for ages and couldn't think how to phrase the question.

I am able to change the background color of "Inactive Selected" items using the method described above in this thread.  I can only find a way to apply it on a folder-by-folder basis.  Is there a way to have it apply to all folders?

I think it would work IF I could change the colour-group attributes for "<Generic Group>" but TB won't let me.  If I try, I get a message that says "The handle '<Default>' could not be used as a unique identifier. Please choose another handle." However, the handle for "<Generic Group>" can't be modified.  To do what I would like, it seems that there would need to be a way to apply a colour group to many/all folders.

I am using V9.3.4.

When possible, I encourage trying the current version prior to seeking assistance. 9.4.5 seems to work fine.
