Changing POP3 to IMAP, How to make change

For an established and well used POP3 account is it possible to change the protocol to IMAP without reestablishing the account ?

The other solution would be to create a new account in IMAP and move the message tree into it ?

I see no way to change an existing account from POP3 to IMAP.

I've never tried it before, but I also see two options you described: 1. Start creating a new account, and point it to the existing one, and 2. Create a completely new account and copy the message tree to it.

I have no idea whether any of this would work.

Of course, back up everything first.

A quick google search reveals multiple threads on the topic on this forum, be sure to study them first. It seems that message folders can present a challenge.
