Or run TB with the /ForceNoCEF command-line option. The alternative HTML viewer will be used which is faster. However, some TB functionality will not be available: the conversation view (use the classic preview pane instead), the new address book interface (use the old one), calendar (just don't use it), and I think viewing office documents as well.
EDIT: In any case, what you may be experiencing is CEF processes hanging, causing delays in viewing messages. When TB is closed, these threads stay in memory and need to be forcefully ended. This is especially prominent in v11.4.1, I advise rolling back to v11.3 or v11.4. It can still happen in these versions, but MUCH more rarely.
