Gmail pop3 Win10 configuration?

I haven't been able to download gmail since 2023, tried so many times and gave up.

There is nothing I can do to get past the USER NAME / PASSWORD error.

I tried the entire email address and without @gmail.com


"!3/30/2025, 12:44:08: FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: -ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted.


What is my USER NAME for a gmail account?

I don't want to create any usernames unless I have to.

Checked the password a gazillion times, but I can't SEE it.  Only *****   I typed it, I pasted it, but no way to see whether it's correct?

If I ever get past the username/pw error, what is all that stuff in the Authentication INSTEAD of SSL?  Where do I set to SSL?

Gmail uses your Google Account. The username is usually your gmail address.

Are you setting up a POP3 or an IMAP account in The Bat? Which version of The Bat?

So I don't understand why I can't get past this error using my Gmail email address:

I logged out of Gmail, and logged back in just fine.   I don't get it.

What are your Transport settings in Account Properties? For my POP3 Gmail account, I have:

SEND MAIL:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port 465 (Note: Google recommends 587, but I've never tried because this works)
Authentication button:
[x] Perform SMTP Authentication (RFC 2554) - Same user/password as for Mail Retrieval

RECEIVE MAIL:

Mail server: pop.gmail.com
User: (my gmail address)
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port 995
Protocol POP3
Authentication button:
[x] OAUTH (using Web Browser)

In my Gmail settings, online under  "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" (https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop), I have:

1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 10/02/2009

In my Google account settings (online, under Security (https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/security?hl=en-GB), in the lower-right section named "Your connections to third-party apps and services", it shows The Bat. When I click on it, I am taken to https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/connections/overview, which says:

 How Google helps you sign in to The Bat: "Sign in with Google"

 The Bat! has some access to your Google Account
 To use some The Bat! features, you gave The Bat! some access to your Google Account. This access might include sensitive info.
 - See your profile info
 - Read, compose, send and permanently delete all your email from Gmail
 - See, edit, download and permanently delete your contacts

I needed to check this:

[x] OAUTH (using Web Browser)

Also, the window with my transport settings was so small I didn't see most settings.    I wish the log didn't give me the username / password error all the time!

These settings all look very familiar. I can't figure out why Chrome won't connect to OAUTH (Localhost) Does anyone know how to add gmail as a less secure app in google? Actually, it's adding TB as the less secure app in my Google account.

Okay, I finally figured it out. Here is the workaround. Make sure two-step verification is turned on in your Google account, and after that, change your Bat configuration to Regular Authenticate. You will notice your password box pop up. Then, go generate an app password at https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords?pli=1&rapt=AEjHL4PzPgeTh9BFYI1ScgPtUtT7heNpLJHA-Vn. Don't forget to make a name for it. Copy and paste your new app password for the insecure app TB (According to Google) and you are up and running, avoiding OAUTH altogether. I hope this helped.
