As the title says I would like to backup/archive specific folders. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Also how would I be able to restore any of these backup/archive folders?
I've done massive multi-Gig backups before. But never selected individual folders.
The "official" way: On the first screen of Tools -> Backup... check "Let me specify the folder list", and on a later screen you will be asked to do so. There is an analogous checkbox on the first screen of Tools -> Restore...
The "caveman" way: Just copy the folders manually using a file manager. When "restoring", after copying the folder(s) back, you may need to do a "Find Lost Folders" (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+L).

Thanks very much Milos.
I was going to ask which is preferred/better but it looks like I'll have no choice but to use the "caveman" method.
I walked through the steps for the "official" way but was never given an opportunity to select the folder I want to backup. For you see The Bat does not allow you to choose a folder within an account/folder. You can only select an account folder, that's it.
So I guess I'll just be a caveman. Will restoring folders like this be a problem?

On the second screen you select the account(s), and on the third screen you should be given the opportunity to select folders. See here:

Ah yes thanks! I didn't want to hit OK after the second screen because I thought it would start the backup. But I was able to get to the third screen and then select the folder.
The backup process went smoothly, it only took a few seconds.
Just a few questions about the file created.
It ends with .tbk which I believe is a standard backup file. Other The Bat files for this account end with .tbb and .tbn.
The .tbb and .tbn files are 1.5 larger than the backup file. Does this indicate that the backup file is compressed?
Now that I have the .tbk file, can I safely delete the .tbb and ,tbn files?

Yes.

It should be, but it's best to test: copy the files (actually, the whole folder containing them) to a safe location, start TB, delete the message folder from there, do a restore from the .tbk file, and see if the result is as expected.

Thanks again Milos. I applied your test and everything out well. So I can safely delete the files now.
