Gmail Pop checks email but downloads nothing

I've had so many problems with downloading Gmail, I stopped using Gmail except for my family in Germany with t-online.de email.  After at least 100 hours wasted on t-online over the years, I gave up trying to send email to t-online.  Even changing IP didn't help, my emails are spammed or whatever, rarely received, no matter what they do.  The internet worked so much better 30 years ago!

So I tried setting up gmail again and it "works", except it downloads nothing.

First, check whether POP is enabled in your GMail account. How to do that:

1. Open GMail in your browser
2. Go to Settings, and click "See All Settings"
3. Select the tab "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"

There you can see whether POP is enabled, and change that.

Wow, thanks.  NOTHING irritates me more than settings changing "on their own."    I remember now making sure this was on when I last worked on this.

5 weeks later ...  Realized I didn't get my gmail again.   Checked the settings and, once again, Pop was disabled in Gmail.  

Does this happen to others, or am I cursed?

I'm so tired that my gmail-box not works through pop3* that do forwarding of all his letters.

*This is known bug that RitLabs ignore by many months.

Than I do that box as imap and uncheck all checkmarks about receiving automatically letters (just for entering to that box sometime for cleaning and for having this box for send letters). All an inbox letters I have it through forwarding on another box.

You are not cursed. This is a bug like a feature. pop3 + gmail + the bat = not works normally

1+ year as this bug is alive.  v11.2.2.4 and more early don't have this bug.

I find this thread describing almost the same problem -- it's four years ago and that user apparently could not enable POP3 access at all.

Google is clearly working toward eliminating POP3 entirely. They recently announced the upcoming termination of the ability to fetch email via POP3 from outside accounts.

Other providers are also deprecating POP3, albeit more slowly. This has been going on for at least 20 years.

The solution is IMAP. Some people resist, but the known problems with POP3 and the known advantages of IMAP make the shift inevitable, or as close to inevitable as taxes. And The Bat works great with IMAP.
