transfering data from one account to another? (just mails), the bat! voyager - version 12.0.3 (64-bit)

hi, i had a company email account and that has been shut down. i still have many emails in my company account email folder (inbox & sent mails) i can no longer use the company account mail address (authentication failed) and i would like to keep the emails for later reference before deleting the actual account from my mail client [ the bat! voyager - version 12.0.3 (64-bit) ] ... oh yes, before anyone asks: i am using imap for all mail accounts.

i have tried marking the emails and moving them from the inbox of the discontinued account to the inbox of a different account but no matter if i copy cut paste nothing seems to work.

1) is it possible at all?
2) how must it be done?

next thing that i would need to know: when i finally delete the account from the mail program will it delete the account entirely? including the corresponding directories for that account as well, or must i manually delete something again?

any help would be great.

thanks in advance.

kind regards

I'd try this:

Make a new Common folder (Folder | New | New Common Folder). This will appear in your folder tree and look like an account, but it's really just a storage folder.

Right-click on this new folder in your account tree and use New | Folder to create an 'inbox' subfolder (or use a different name).
Repeat for a 'sent mail' subfolder.

Now see if you can Copy/Paste or Drag & Drop your messages fr om the defunct account to your new inbox and sent mail subfolders.

Options | Preferences | System | Mail Directory tells you the location of your mail folder. Your defunct account is (or 'was', at that time) a subfolder within it. So, that's wh ere you can look to see if it's really gone.

hi,

nope. does not work. tried that. here is what happens. i got to inbox of discontinued account and go to first email and then right click and choose "select all" ... next step: right click choose "messages" and then "move to folder" then follow the dialogue and choose new folder. then say ok and all the mails are gone but the number next to inbox remains the same as before. then i click on outbox and back on inbox and all the mails are back again. by the way in the new storage folder 0 mails are imported or added or whatever.

i also tried to drag and drop single mails. nothing works there either.

last but not least i also tried to move "thread" or even copy thread into the new folder.

everything i have tried has failed.

nothing else i can do?

just so that no one thinks of asking me to save all emails individually and then importing them again: i am not talking about 10 mails but more like over 100 mails

any further ideas might be helpful, thanks

kind regards

Maybe you could try saving the messages to files in .msg, .eml or .mbox format and then importing them.

Or try copying instead of moving them. Press Ctrl-A to select all messages in the source folder, drag them to the target folder with your mouse and keep Ctrl pressed down as you drop them there.

at the moment i can not start my the bat! voyager anymore. i get an errorcode. i will try the other suggestions as soon as i get it running again.

"Could not register tab. Error -2147467259."

but i will let you know after it works again if anything works. thanks for now.

Ask support about new beta version. This bug is fixed there.

hi,

right i have tried the copying and also the saving as  .mbox and reimporting them.

here is my verdict:

every way of copying is a fail.
the saving as mbox worked
but when importing them only about half the mails were imported.

both not superb but at least i have a chance with the import and the mbox exporting

thanks.

kind regards

OK, we're getting somewhere.

Perhaps not all messages were fully downloaded. Try this: Account -> Properties -> Mail management -> IMAP Fine-Tune, and there select "Get entire message" in Message download preferences (both places). Re-connect to the account (or restart TB) and try again.

That's why I do not like IMAP, no matter what. Periodically needs to do a copy/move of IMAP emails to some folders directly stored within The Bat!

IMAP is an evil for backup and archive.

Ah, I forgot about that part. The erratic results may be due to some messages being downloaded before, some not.

It could be that TB keeps trying to connect to the server but can't, resulting in some messages not being saved. Perhaps this could help:

Account -> Properties -> Mail management -> Connect to the Server -> only when the user explicitly invokes "connect" command

The idea is to prevent TB from trying to connect, so it can save what it can save.
