HTML message as attachment

Whenever I receive an HTML message, it shows the HTML attachment in attachment list. When I forward it to some one the recepient also receives HTML message in attachment. It does not happen in other mail clients. Is there a way to disable this. I mean why can't an HTML message go just like that without the attachment displaying HTML file.

what version of TheBat! are you using?

version 3.6

I have the same problem and i cant for the life of me figure out how to stop this.  Its very annoying   lol.

How do we get those messages to stop displaying as attachments???

Im using v3.62.14

I too have that issue and would love it solved. Can anyone answer our question please?

You can stop viewing the HTML part as an attachment by viewing all messages as text only. However, that might no be what you want. You can try the setting at:
Options -> Preferences -> Viewer/Editor ->
Set 'View HTML messages using' to 'Plain text version only' and do the same for 'View messages with alternative layout'

This won't prevent the HTML part of the message being sent as an attachment. TB isn't quite finished on  the HTML department.

Thanks Roelof. I hope TB get's more HTML friendly in messages. It should be embedded into the message when it is opened so the user doesn't have to go through the trouble of opening a second window just to view pic's, and what ever is sent in HTML in the message.

You don't have to open a second window to view pics that are sent. You only have to open a second window to see the pictures that aren't sent.

Hmmm, it seems that when I am sent an email..say a newsletter that has pic's or images in it, the images are boxed out with little red "X's" and in order for me to "see" them I have to click on the "HTML" tab to open a browser to view the whole message as it was ment to be sent...images and all.
This is what I cn't figure out why it is doing it and how to correct it, if possible.

Oh and on a side note: reciently when I try to close TB, it crashes (freezes) and I have to "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" to close it and get back to my desk top. Any ideas on this?

Thnx.

When you need to open your browser to see the pics, the pics weren't sent along with the message. You need your browser to view the pics on the internet.
Due to restrictions like this TB has built its reputation as a safe mailer.

What version are you using? Does it help when you install 3.62.14? Did you change something on your system (anti-virus, firewall, whatever)? Are all of your connections closed? What plug-ins do you use?

I am using the latest version of TB and haven't changed anything else. I am using the spam plug-in though.

Thnx

Create an internal backup with TB (select everything)
When you've done that, close TB and move your mail directory to another location (don't delete it yet, just to be sure).
Start TB and restore your backup.

When this doesn't fix the problem, uninstall TB, install it again and restore your backup again.

Is there any possibility that this is addressed to in the next version. I am getting fed up from my mail client and want to switch over to TB. This is the only problem I wish to get sorted out in TB

Don't ask me, I'm merely an end-user just like you. When you want to address the developers, you'd best submitt this to the wishlist:

You can insert wishes in the wish list, by logging in to:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/main_page.php
Choose 'The Bat! wishes' and add a new item.
First check whether someone has made the same wish, then you can
support that wish.
Wishes that are supported by more users are more likely to be granted
than wishes by one. And the system isn't smart enough to understand
that wishes might be the same.
And add just one wish per entry. Makes everything easier, both for
other users who want to add support and for the developers.

I am closely following the developement at Ritlabs. But I think this problem is still not rectified. I am interested in this great software but only because of this problem I am not buying it. Could you tell me if there is a way to prevent it from happening. Or is it up for the next upgrade?

Could anyone tell me if this problem is solved or not? I am waiting for it to be solved to buy TB.

No, the problem isn't fixed and I don't think that'll happen anytime soon. It would take a drastic step step in the development of TB, as TB should change from text oriented to HTML oriented.

When you don't want the HTML attachment to be sent along, you can delete it manually.

Is there a way to do this automatically. I have around 100 mails to be sent every day. If there is a way to send HTML messages with out the attached HTML file I would certainly be shifting my entire mail box on TB.

We're mixing things up. When I suggested to delete the HTML attachment, I meant when forwarding the message. Because when you forward a HTML message, TB will edit the text part of the message, but won't alter the matching HTML part, so you'd send non matching message parts.

When you send a HTML message, the most common way is to send them as 'Content-Type: multipart/alternative'
That means a plain text part and a matching HTML part. Technically (no matter what other clients are showing) that HTML part is an attachment. So there's nothing wrong with TB showing it as such.
There is a way to turn off that view (at least there was a way). However I don't advise using that, as that means you can't open the HTML part with your browser to view pictures that weren't included with the message.

I think it's TB's inability to use HTML templates that keeps it from adapting the HTML part when editing the text part of the message while replying or forwarding.

I understand that. I only have one point here. on my official mailing system when I send a mail from TB to other people that mail reflects the HTML part as an attachment on all other mail clients. That confuses the receiver and he keeps on asking me why I send the same message as HTML attachment also (they do not know the technical details of the content type). So is there a way that when i forward (it does not show on reply) an HTML message to someone, the HTML part is not shown as an attachment on their client. As you had told one way was to delete the HTML manually and that is what i am doing. But any other way to do it.
