Rebuilding Bat Without Backup (*.tbk) Files?

Hi,

Due to a failure of WinXP Home I've had to rebuild Bat on a new install of WinXP/HDD.  I can still access the old HDD, with the mailboxes, etc.  Unfortunately, I don't believe that I ever used the internal "backup" utility to capture The Bat's config.  Can I rebuild Bat by copying the original folders/files?  If so, which files/folders are required?

Thanks for your help.

When you didn't create new accounts in TB yet, then you should do the following:
Move the contents of your old mail directory to your new mail directory.
Start TB
It starts complaining about the lack of accounts.
Create a new account, but give it the name of one of your old accounts (same as the name of the account directory).
TB will recognize the settings for the old account (including folders, filters, templates, etc)

Do this for all of your accounts.

When you've already created new accounts, just copy the account directories to your new mail directory (in case you've already used the same names, just alter the name of your old account directories).
Tell TB you want to create a new account and give the new account the name of the newly copied account and it'll be recognized.
When your new address book doesn't contain any entries, just copy the old address book on top of it. (the .abd files) Or import it into your new AB.

3.62.14

I thought that your problem only existed in a couple beta versions, but apparently it slipped through in one of the public releases too.
Try to download the latest version and see whether that works.

Range check error :(
What does this error mean ?

Is there anything I can do to import my mail ?

I have also a *.tbk archive but it is 3 month old
and when retrevieng from my main mailbox it gives
me also an error :| (always while retrieving folder "Sent") - Error while reading file.

I think this copy wasnt from protected Bat program
so it was not encoded. is there a way to explore a tbk
file so I could import data from my account that lies
after "Sent" in other folders ?

Log: "07:39:54 MBase:NotifyIndexDelete EAccessViolation Access violation at address 00990E97 in module 'thebat.exe'. Read of address 00000008"

Thanks in advance

I don't know, I only know that it means you've got problems.

And this means that your problems are getting bigger. But as the error is always at the same place you'd better accept that the your backup is corrupted.

After restoring your backup, have you got your full folder structure without messages? Or are your folder and filters missing too. (I'm asking as I've never had to restore a corrupted backup.)

When you've got your full folder structure etc. you could try to import the messages via:
Tools -> Import messages -> From TB messagebase v2

After restoring I have full structure.
Other accounts are ok (even SmartBat ;))
but THE MOST important one is not !
my Inbox folder is complete then I got error
and other folders are emtpy.

Using
Tools -> Import messages -> From TB messagebase v2
gives no result becasu I get
"0 messages converted" (even from 90MB files :( )

Let's not be too dramatic.

You're saying that you get '0 messages converted' Did you try that for every folder? The import doesn't restore a full account, but only one folder, so try all folders.

As a sidenote. When you restored your backup, did you do that over your old account or have you still got those files somewhere else? (In the first case you've got a serious problem.)
