Auto-complete Subject Woe

If I enter "Hello from Fred" as the subject of any message auto-complete remembers this and I am never able to enter a simple "Hello" as the subject of any subsequent message. Auto-complete fills in the "... from Fred" part even though I don't want that. Is there a way to avoid this? Thanks.

Disable the autocomplete function. Another option would be to press 'delete'to get rid of the autocompleted part.
In the latest version you can disable autocomplete in:
Options -> Preferences -> Message headers -> [Select your header] -> Edit -> 'Editing' tab

In older versions the setting can be found by following the instructions of the help file. (search for 'autocomplete')

I am using 3.65.03. I use autocomplete regularly so disabling it is not an option. When I 'delete' the unwanted part of the string by using the backspace key, the unwanted part just pops back into place - this happens no matter how many times I delete it.

I even try to delete the unwanted part and then immediately press tab to place the cursor in the body of the e-mail but the autocomplete still fills in the subject with the unwnated bit of text.

It seems once you enter a string you can never shorten it - the full original string keeps adding itself. Deleting part of the string should be final.

Try this:
Create a message
Select the subject field
Press the icon with a double arrow down at the right side of the subject field.
The pull down list with the subject history will appear.
Navigate through it with the up and down arrows on your keyboard until you find the entry that gives you problems.
Press the Delete key
Now that one entry will be deleted.

I hope this suffices
