Account on a network share, Central mails without a mailserver

Hello Friends of the Bat,

i would like store the account data (account.* Files and Folders with Messages)
on a network drive (network share) to have a central backup possibility
and use/check my Mails from different Computers without a IMAP Mailserver.

To reduce the traffic on the lan i would store the attachments
outside the messages in a separated location.

Is it so feasible or must i count with problems?
Is the access from more as one Computer (maybe at the same time) a Problem?
I have tested it and so far it works great - but in the practice ... how knows details?

Thanks in advance,
best regards

Otto

Your setup should work without problems, though I'd forget about multiple systems accessing the same message base at the same time. TB used to have a special setup to make that possible, but that has been removed from the options as it was incompatible with other features, so simultaneous access might cause problems.

In order to reduce your network traffic, I'd suggest to keep your mail stored in lots of folders with relatively few messages. Storing attachments outside the message body will help too.
