Problems with threads

Hi,

I would like to have my messages grouped by subject, but with only one subdivision (only one "+" sign). The problem is that:
1. with "subject" thread, I have one thread by subject, even if there is only one mail (and I don't want a "+" sign in front of all the mails).
2. with "reference" thread, all the mails are interlocked (like russian dolls): there are as many "+" signs as mails, in one given group...

How can I have, for a group of mails corresponding to one given subject, only one subdivision (only one "+" sign)?

Thanks,
Tristan

Agree, this is very bad.
I thought I had the solution when I found a setting called "Limit expansion of the first column to x levels".
(Preferences/Messages)
But what is does is just to hide the levels below... :|

Also, moving threaded mails can be a pain since all mails inside has to be selected. (haven't found a command for this).
If the thread is closed and the top level selected that should also move the levels below.

Select the root message of the thread -> Right mouse button -> Thread -> Move/Delete/Whatever

Many thanks Roelof!!

But I still feel that this is a bad solution, operations on a closed thread should be applied to all mails inside it.

And as far as I can tell you will still have to manually select every sub-level if you want to re-thread messages.

I tried just now and though the dialog windows asks me 'ok to thread 1 messages' it rethreads the whole (sub)thread.

I forgot to reply to this.

To a certain levelo I agree with you, but the you've got the risk to delete a whole thread by accident where you only wanted to delete the root message. I think that the current solution is the best compromise.

Why not have a system that works on all the messages in the thread when it is the root message selected, but if it is a delete command it prompts "are you sure you want to delete entire thread" or some such safeguard?
