Used to use TB2, intalled TB3 but mails don't show

Hello, there.

I am registered user of The Bat! version 2.x on Winodws 98SE. Have my emails under the typical TB folder structure. I didn't make a backup but the directory reamins untouched.

Then formatted.

Now, under WinXP I've installed version 3 Home Edition and pointed my mail directory to the directory containing TB2 files.

After starting TB3 all folders show but no mail inside them.
I deinstalled TB3 and installed TB2 but I won't ask me where I have my emails stored. It just start as TB3 with the folder structure OK but no mail inside!

I want my email back and no bother if have to use TB2, actually my registration key if for version 2.

Perhaps I must delete some registy entry before re-installing TB2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

From where I srand I can't say what went wrong, as you installed TB like it should.

When you check the actual directories matching TB's folders, do the messages.tbb files still contain your messages? (They are readable with a texteditor)
The directories should contain a messages.tbb and .tbi file.

Dear Roelof,

Yes, the TB folder has .tbb and .tbi files.
.tbb files contain my emails.

Perhaps I should uninstall TB completelly and delete some configuration file.
Why --even uninstalling-- the program still knows where I have my emails?

That's odd. When the .tbb files contain your messages TB should display them.

Before we're going to experiment you'd better create a backup: Copy your full mail directory to a safe location.

Now delete all messages.tbi files from your maildirectory.

Start |TB  ans see whether it helped. If not then do:
Tools -> Import messages -> .tbb  and point it to one of the meesages.tbb files in your backup. As the import command places the thew imported messages in the current folder you'd take care that your folders  and directories match. When this helps repeat it for every folder.

Dear Roelof,

Thanks for your help.
I imported the messages but haven't the folder structure available as before. Then I switched the mail directory to my backup in the Windows Desktop. Then deleted the original location of the emails and dumped the back up back to the original mail directory.

When I opened TB everything was fine, all the folders and subfolders containing every piece of email was back!!  :D

I can't certanly say what really happened but I am happy to have my emails back.

Noew the problem remains in the address book and the templates and account's general settings I used to have.
Importing the address book doesn't regenerate my address lists (groups). My templates are lost and now I really can't figure out where to bring them back..  :o
