I'm a The Bat! user and I'm still wondering why The Bat! forces you to open an html attachment to view html messages with inserted pictures.

I also find useless to force the attachment of all the pictures you insert when writing a mail in the way that when receivers open mails they watch pictures twice.

I know the reasons that Ritlabs stands for this (you can read them here: http://www.ritlabs.com/kb/idx/0/017/article/) but I think that would be really interesting to include
a check box in Preferences were you could choose between:
- The Bat! classic behaviour (by default) or
- an Outlook behavior (and where I say Outlook I could say any other mail client)

I think that with an option like this The Bat! would definitely rock all other mail clients.

Don't hold your breath. Ritlabs has seemingly never cared to address this need, which has been requested by many, many users. They are stuck in the text-only past and apparently don't trust their own users with giving them an OPTION to display image links. Probably have lost a lot of customers because of this short-sighted decision.

At this point I consider the omission "a bug not a feature" and will never pay for another upgrade until they fix it.

The next beta series promises to implement this feature at long last. So - Jeremy B - polish up your credit card! ;-)

downloading images is working, but some additional things like GUI changes are not finished yet, so please wait, it will be soon.

Now THAT is the best news I've heard in awhile! I'm currently using Thunderbird mainly but will be more than happy to return to The Bat when the "download images" feature is implemented.

Wow,
I tried the bat, liked it, except for its removal of html images in the preview, so returned to OE (more reliable than thunderbird IMO), but not it seems The Bat may be worth another look... soon, that is.

AFAIK downloading images feature will be introduced soon, big part is already finished, but it seems there will be not introduced in upcoming final, because some things like HTTPS are not yet ready and this needs time for implementing and testing.

I just have one question (or two.) Since "soon" is a relative term, how exactly do you personally define it? The reason I ask is because 3 months ago in this same thread you also said it would be ready "soon."

I think the minimum definition of soon in this case has already been established as 3 months, so what is the maximum definition? 6 months? A year?

I am not a developer, so I can't tell You exact date. There are more reasons, why development of some features can be longer. I have tested it, it works, but some things are not ready for betatesting yet, this is reason why it will not be in upcoming final release yet.

I was trying a lot of email clients during this week, since I want to switch from Outlook to something else.

After my tests, I found that TheBat was the winner, but this behavior (blocking inline pictures) was very frustrating. The current post did send me straight to the checkout page :-)

One advice:
I think that the best way to implement this, is by giving 3 options:

1. block all images
2. show all images
3. show images from safe senders

So, each time we receive such an email, the default behaviour would be to block all images (as it is now), but TB could give me the choice to add the sender to a whitelist...

This would be flexible and secure enough...

I would add one more thing. A simple "display images" button that would allow you to download images per email without necessarily having to put the address in a whitelist. Thunderbird has been doing this for a long time and it works well.

Wow, a new version came out today! I quickly scan the new features expecting to see that long desired feature that will finally bring The Bat into the mainstream - embedded images! Will Marck's message from 9/12/06 ("The next beta series promises to implement this feature at long last. So - Jeremy B - polish up your credit card!") finally come true?

But no, it's yet another version that is released without this critical feature.

Had you been truly interested in this feature, I would have thought you'd have joined the beta test programme, if only to fact find.

Had you done so, you would have seen the feature started then sidelined by the silghtly greater need for Vista compatibilty and compliance. But, hey, why spoil a good rant with a fact or two?

It is still on the way.

Your post is a bit irksome. They did add a button that was to do that - something I am also waiting for. There have been a lot of updates and fixes on the way to this release. That translates to a lot of work - no joke!

It is still on the way.

Sidelined? For at least seven years?? That's how long I've been using TB and that's how long people have been clamoring for inline images. Give me a break.

The Bat ROCKS!!!  Except I cannot use it because I absolutely require HTML view/edit capabilities.  What a shame.  I though every email client on the planet had this capability?  How hard can that be?  Bummer.

I like The Bat and have been messing with it for a few days. I won't use a program unless it has html viewing. Sweet program though!!
