memory footprint

Whether minimised or open, The Bat use 30mb of RAM.
Isn't that a little large? I would like to have my
email client running in the background most of the
time that I'm working, but that is a substantial
amount of my total memory. By comparison, I think
Eudora used less than 3mb when minimised.

Any comments?

Mine is taking 42,580 right now

Thunderbird 1.5.07 used about 42mb of memory.  For me, this is normal.  I wouldn't be concerned.

Here I'm using only 5Mb.
----

mine's using <ahem> 60 MEGS

( maybe its the result of all that VIAGRA-SPAM??) :-)

I'm using TB for years and never checked this.
Now I did - after starting TB, it takes about 28MB (TB window has focus, Inbox folder active). If then I minimize it, it frees nearly everything - only ~1MB remains. If I then restore it again, it uses ~5MB.
If I open another folder, mem usage increases but never reaches the initial amount of 28MB.
Whenever I minimize it (to taskbar, not to tray), it always goes to ~1MB.

My mail folder is ~ 0.5GB, after a recent serious cleanup.

So the memory management seems to be pretty good - it does not occupy memory when loaded but inactive.

If you install the latest 3.95 version it should consume less memory and work faster.

3.95 (christmas edition) is quite DRAMATICALLY smaller in memory footprint... compared to the previous version, i'm down from 60+ megs to only 38 megs

:-)

Thank you, Michael! Did you also notice any speed increase in 3.95?

no speed increase was actually noticeable... and actually after running it a couple of hours, the memory footprint bloated back up to 60 megs again! (some kind of wierd memory leak?)

Im just downloading the 3.95.03 update now.. and i'm hoping this fixes a couple of the critical errors that surfaced in 3.95.01  :(

How do you observer the memory footprint? These figures mostly aren't showhing the real picture.

the same way i look at ANY applications memory footprint - the Windows Task Manager...
