Backup/Restore

I have The Bat installed on 2 machines...
Desktop- Windows 2000
Laptop - XPpro SP2

I use the laptop as my primary computer. Once a day I backup The Bat on my LAPTOP. Using pcAnywhere I copy the .tbk backup file to the desktop.

I tested the RESTORE on the Desktop and noticed that the RESTORE did not REPLACE everything on the DESKTOP as I thought a RESTORE would do... it appeared to have "merged" the LAPTOP info into the Desktop ...

Can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing incorrectly? All I want to do is COMPLETELY REPLACE the Desktop The Bat data with the LAPTOP The Bat data!

Thanks

Al

Imo the built-in backup/restore feature is not good for everyday use, or even for an occasional use.

theBat keeps everything that's important inside the mail folder (some non-essential stuff is stored in the registry)

If you simply copy your mail folder contents from one PC to the other (overwriting existing files), you'll have a full sync.
pcAnywhere has a feature to sync folders, so just use it - this will save you some time as it will only copy(overwrite) what's needed, not everything.

In case you have really big message bases and the above takes a lot of time, consider using the /EXPORT and /IMPORT commands in command-line mode to sync messages only. But if you need to sync messages + settins, you should sync mail folders.

Thank you... I appreciate the response.

I have never used the sync feature of pcAnywhere... off to check it out :D
