TheBat! and the rev-DNS

Hello,

I've just installed the Bat and I've noticed all my outgoing mail is stamped with my intranet rev-DNS label (i.e. my phone number). I haven't got this problem with Outlook. I don't need to add I don't want all of my outgoing mail to include my phone number and I can't just ask the adminis to change the records ;(

It looks like that:
Received: from *phone number*.internal (something.zigzag.pl [***.***.***.***])

and in Outlook it was like:
Received: from (something.zigzag.pl [***.***.***.***])

Any clues?

TIA

Are you using TB on a different computer as Outlook?

TB uses the computername in the EHLO statement, at least that is what it's using over here. But I'd expect Outlook to do the same, to be sure I just checked it. Outlook is doing the same.

So my suggestion would be to change your computername to something you'd like. You can do that in the network section of Windows.

Yes, it's EHLO statement. My computer name is PLANT and Outlook uses that, yet The Bat! asks local intranet server for the computer name; rev-DNS for my computer private IP from the local server is that unfortunate (phone number).zigzag.pl and the Bat! puts that label in EHLO :(

With Outlook, you might merely have the dotted-decimal IP address without the name part, but anybody could have done the reverse-DNS lookup from the IP address to get the same information (your telephone number).

If you don't want to disclose your telephone number, I'd have recommended to ask your provider to not disclose it via the DNS. Choosing another provider may be an option.
