Broken connections on receive

I recently upgraded to 3.01 from 1.62r. After overcoming
a couple of minor upgrade issues I am now fully
back online.

It is really nice peice of work.

However, regarding email receiving, I am not as comfortable
as I was used to. I occasionaly have broken connections,
almost daily, especially when I have large emails
(over 1MB) on the server side.

I can not argue that I have the most realiable hosting
service, but, when I had urgency I could receive
my emails from another email client (Thunderbird).
So I think there might be an issue with The Bat...

I use The Bat for daily communication with over
100 emails per day.

I have Sygate firewall and Bitdefender antivirus,
since long before the 3.01.

Please help.
Thanks
Cem

I can testify from personal experience (just tried it) that TB has no exceptional problems with large mail. I just sent myself (from another pc) a mail with a 36 MB attachment. That made the complete mail about 50 MB, TB received it fine, albeit a tad slow. (about 4 - 5 minures, including the scan by the AVG plug-in.

What happens when disable bitdefender's mail checking?

I don't think it is merely a size problem, either.

I received emails around 10Mb without a problem.

Also as an interesting point, I have two accounts on
the same pop server. When one gets stuck on receive,
the other is usually ok.

I increased the delay timer, but it didn't help a
successful receive; just reduced the number of logs.

When I have the same problem again, I will disable
email checking and test it.

I am usually seeing the problem in the mornings
(last three days in a row) recently. So I think
I will not have any additional feedback till tomorrow.

Thanks
Cem

Now I've got some more information.

I have another account, which is local, i.e. from
a POP server which is on my LAN. It had a problem this
morning:

11.11.2004, 10:10:57: FETCH - receiving mail messages
11.11.2004, 10:10:57: FETCH - connected to POP3 server
11.11.2004, 10:10:57: FETCH - authenticated (plain)
11.11.2004, 10:10:57: FETCH - 4 messages in the mailbox, 0 new
!11.11.2004, 10:10:57: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: "UIDL", "QUIT")

Then I disabled the BitDefender's anti-spam and
ant-virus detection. The problem is gone!

Is there a way of The Bat being more immune to
behaviors of antivirus anti-spam programs? - No, I
don't mean hiding the error logs! :)

Because, it seems to me, some clients out there are
happily working with my BitDefender

Thanks
Cem

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us! :)

@Cem

thank you for your hint. Did have the same problem with "TheBat 1.62" and "NortonAntivirus 2005".
With "NortonAntivirus 2004" everything does work fine.

Leaving the computer unprotected is not the aim. :|  Do you know of any workaround or fix?

Thanks Andreas

I have the same problem, but it happens even if attachment is 2 or 3 megs. I guess it is all about how many megs are in server account in total. When I have more messages, let's say 4-8 each 2-3 megs, connection breaks if I enable mail dispatcher. If it is turned off, all mails gets to my computer, so it is the problem with mail dispatcher.

I am protected by ZoneAlarm Security Suite and Symantec AntiVirus CE 9.
