Password suddenly rejected, Sudden failure - can't access inbox

The Bat has suddenly started to reject the passwords for two accounts. It continually asks for the access password but rejects every time, even though the password is correct. Just get the same message box over and over again - invalid password. This does not happen with two others.

This means I cannot access my main account - inbox, addresses, outbox - anything. This is a disaster.

Backup is just the same - no access. Using backup, cursor constantly flickers.

I am desperate for any help I can get to deal with this problem. Please help.

do you use on-the-fly encryption?
If not, and only have a password to open the account - I think in such case none of the files that belong to the account is actually password protected. So you may create a new account(without a password) and then close TB and copy all the files from the physical folder of the problematic account (it should be a subfolder of the mail folder) to the physical folder of the new account. Then start TB and you'll have everything in the new account.

If you use on-the-fly encryption, I have no idea what can be done as I don't use it.

Thank you, bigg one

I have no idea what is meant by on-the-fly encryption, so I suspect I don't use it.  ;)

The accounts themselves are not password protected - I am being asked for the password on the server - the ISP account password. Without that, I seem to have no access to the files.

However, the problem suddenly resolved itself yesterday. I can see absolutely no reason why it did so. I suspect this is some kind of bug in the system, but I can't see why it is suddenly happening. However, it does make me think I shall have to abandon "the Bat" as I can't afford for this to happen.

Now I have a new problem. Have switched ISPs and "the Bat" won't find the router that has replaced the modem. I get "error 797" but can (so far) find no mention of this error in the help files, so I am spending my time now trying to work out how to deal with this new problem. I find the support system very obscure indeed.

I do appreciate your help. Thanks again.

what you describe doesn't seem to be a problem related to theBat, but some sort of a temporary problem with your ISP. The bug is/was with your ISP/mail server. It suddenly resolved because your ISP fixed it, theBat doesn't seem to be involved at all.

I don't really understand the other problem, but I guess you'll have it with any other email client, so again it's not a problem in theBat itself but just a matter of correct settings. Do you have the same problem when using another mail app, like Outlook Express for example?

Once again, bigg one, many thanks. I didn't seem to be having the same problem with Outlook, so it will remain a mystery. However I have just chnaged my ISP, so you may well be right.

I cannot now get "the Bat" to access the new server. It was accessing the old one OK. I have set it all up and it is working alright in Outlook. I have switched the "phone book" in the Bat, but I only get "the remote computer did not respond." I have filled in the box asking for username, password and domain, but can't seem to get any progress.

I'm afraid the Bat is too complex a programme for me - I've used computers regularly for many years, but I'm not a techie and I find the Bat knowledge base makes no concessions to folks like me.

If you know the answer to this one, I would be really grateful for any further help.

Look at
Options -> Network & Administration
Here you can set the internet connection to 'Local Area Network or manual connection'

Maybe the ISP has forced some kind of Authentication?
