subfilters

Would someone please give an explanation of how sub filters work?

Basically they work the same as normal filters, but they get only compared to messages that have triggered the parent filter.

They don't diminish the number of filters you need, but they simplify the conditions you use.

However I don't use them them a lot. Most of the ones I use were created to get a feeling for them. Not to really enhance the efficiency of my filtering.

It looks like subfilters are broken in v4.0.24.  My subfilters trigger regardless of the criteria set in them.

I can't confirm that behaviour.

Could you give some example?

I, too, find that the subfilter is triggered regardless of the parent filter.  Shouldn't the subfilter trigger only if its criteria are met and also the criteria of the parent filter?

You're confirming a bug you reported yourself two and a half yeart ago.  ;)
When you reported it I asked for an example, but you never answered that. Could you give an example now? And what version are you currently using?

You are very thorough!  :D
Version is 4.2.38.6 on Windows XP Pro SP3.
Here is the example.
This executes regardless of parent.
Parent specifies things like "header field contains none of ..." and e-mail addresses.
In this image, I have marked the subfilter as inactive because it was being triggered erroneously.
In this example, the parent filter is appropriately not executed, but the subfilter is then inappropriately executed!

In the early v4 versions there were issues with common subfilters, but I thought they were solved. What happens if you delete this subfilter and create a new one with the same condition?

I deleted the subfilter, recreated it, and found the same results.
