Reply to plain/HTML in plain text, seems to be a missing option

Often I receive messages which are sent in Plain Text and in HTML. I appreciate that The Bat defaults to dispalying the Plain Text version when both exist. But in such cases I wish it could also default to replying in plain text.

To clarify, I'd to reply in HTML to messages that are sent in HTML; in Plain Text to messages that are sent in Plain Text; and in Plain Text to messages that are sent in both formats. Unfortunately, The Bat doesn't seem to allow this configuration.

Am I missing something?

Over here TB replies in plain text to plain text messages or when the text tab is displayed. It replies in HTML when the HTML tab is displayed.

I've set my display option the same as yours (normally I view html-only stuff as text too) and still get the same behavior.
These are my settings:
Options -> Preferences -> Viewer/Editor:
View plain text mssgs as: Rich Text/ HTML Viewer
View HTML as: HTML only
View alternative layout as: Plain text and HTML
Use smiley icons in HTML viewer: Yes (I don't think this is relevant)
Default editor for text: MicroEd
Reply to HTML in plain text: No (I think this is the most important setting here)

Aha! Between posting my message and reading your reply, I had settled for "Reply to HTML in plain text: No". But then I looked over your settings, and found the one which made the difference:

"View alternative layout as: Plain text and HTML"

By default (I guess) that had been set at:

"View alternative layout as: HTML only"

But when I changed that setting to "Plain text and HTML", then I found I could choose how to view a dual-format message (by selecting the Plain tab or the HTMl tab), which is nice, and I can choose which format to reply in (by selecting the respective tab). Which is even slightly better than what I was looking for!

So thanks!
