Upgrade from Home to Pro, Installation

I currently have The Bat 3.99.24 Home Version and would now like to upgrade to Pro.

Do I install the Professional on top of my existing Home Version, or does this need to be installed in a different  folder?

Could someone please let me know what I need to do as I want to make sure the upgrade is done without experiencing any problems.

Unless you want to use the encrypted message base, you simply enter the registration key for the pro version into your existing home config and the pro license is invoked.
Both versions use the same executable.

Thanks for your reply.

It's possible that I will need the encrypted message base, so I would need to install the Pro in a new folder.

Can I then import all the settings from Home to Pro? Or must I first deinstall Home and then install Pro? Not sure how transfer everything from Home to Pro.

Someone should corroborate this, but I believe you should just install Pro over Home, per this page:

http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/download.php

"Note for users of previous versions of The Bat! – do not uninstall your existing copy of The Bat! – just install the new version over it. This will save effort and time. Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 users should have Microsoft Installer Service (InstMSI) installed before setting up the International Pack. Download InstMSI for 95/98, NT 4.0."

I have done it a couple of times before and it went smoothly.

What this means is that there is NO difference between the Home and Pro version. You only need your Pro serial key to unlock the pro features of the Bat!

The procedure that you, tbaddon, cited, only concerns upgrading to a new version (regardless whether it is Home or Pro).

How to handle encryption if you want it:
You really need to reinstall it for that. Basic settings will be kept since those are written in the registry.
How to proceed:
- Make a backup of your mail folder manually with Winrar or Zip (just for safety reasons)
- Now make a backup of all your accounts, mails, addressbooks and so on via the Bat internal Backupprogram
- Now close the Bat, rename your Mail folder to MailOld or something like that
- start the Bat again and you should be asked whether you want to turn on encryption or not, or if not you can do that via some menu (don'T know exactly since I'm using Voyager).
- now use the Bat internal backup program to play back the backup you did before. Your accounts, mails, addressbokks and so on should now exist again and will be encrypted.

Just to make sure I understand correctly.

Update to Pro (without encryption)
Enter Pro registration key in Home version

Update to Pro (with encryption)
Back up mail folder
Back up accounts, mails and address books
Deinstall Home
Install Pro
Turn on encryption
Play back the backup

yup, that's it AFAIK
