html or not?

So does this thing handle html or not?

I've gone through all the settings and my mail still looks like I received it on my cell phone.

Surely this isn't the only email program in the world that cant handle html so i must be doing something wrong

Any help?

Thanks

Hello,

What do you want exactly?

??

To use html email...

To be specific, to have it displayed with images in it's sent format

Options > Preferences > Editor/Viewer

Set view HTML as well Alternative layout to HTML only or HTML and plain etxt.

Remote linked images in HTML mail will not show.

Bat doesn't display html internally.

The pro version I, until very recently, was using handled html via IE, in my case IE6.  If Opera was my current default, it used it.  It loaded/displayed html results locally, in a temp directory.

I assume it should automatically use the default browser.  If it's making no attempt at launching your browser, you've possibly missed a switch/setting in the configuration that allows/activates html.

Displaying html is considered, rightly, a security risk and, I think - from memory, must be intentionally activated.

I'd tell you exactly where this switch is accessed, were it still installed.

Good luck.

edit: there you go, Mean Drake tells you while I'm "composing".

"Displaying html is considered, rightly, a security risk"

That should be my decision. I just don’t understand why software developers feel the need to hold my hand! Not every person using a computer has been doing so for a week.

Not every user of every program needs to be treated like a child. So many security functions and spam filters running none stop… unless disabled you need 4 gigs of ram to run a few programs at once. Add to that Microsoft needs to use 200 megs of ram for every program to make it “look pretty” it just gets frustrating to do any multitasking these days

I am perfectly capable of handling my own security choices

I will go back to Outlook. Bloody thing runs ass slow and to search old mail takes forever… But it shows me email in html.

Personally I could care less what format the email is…. I do however want to see it the way it was sent!

Just 10 minutes on the forum here and it’s easy to see the developers don’t care that people want it. They have decided we don’t need it and that’s that.

" Bat doesn't display html internally. "

Dumb. I deal with 100’s of emails a day and I just want a program that can handle it FAST and show me the email the way it was sent – That’s it! Bat is fast, great! Awesome! In 10 minutes I was loving the speed. Even with 15000 emails.

But I will not be forced into how I will view MY email on MY computer

Thanks for input anyway – Cheers

Well, I don't disagree with what you've said.

My position also would be for RL to provide internal html capability, allowing user choice.

I too, presently, have returned to Outlook.  I like Outlook .. mine functioning like a well oiled machine, not having any of the problems reported by many.  I think the usage/maint. learning curve for it is steep though.

Good luck.

1) The Bat! has its own engine for displaying HTML messages, this engine is not related to any browser! Nor IE, nor other browser engine is used.

2) every browser displays pages differently, but it is worse in HTML newsletters, many of them (what I saw or checked) has problems in HTML syntax and The Bat! can display them differently than IE or Gecko, they ignores these syntax errors very often.

3) if is a problem You do not see images, which are not included in message and there are links only, this will be available in 4.0

When 4 comes out I will take a look.

I'm not opening email in another app to see it... Silly!

For now I am not going to use bat. Will see @ 4....

Huh .. live and learn.

I was certain bat was using IE.

Sorry for the bad info, toddp.

What a shame too! I just absolutely hate outlook! The bat is a very nice and FAST email program…. Outlook 2007 is an absolute resource hog. I have a nice machine and it just bogs me down… I can edit HD video with less drag, seriously. Going back to 2003 to help. Maybe even 97.

I seriously just don’t understand why the programmers have such a hate on for HTML mail…. Again, I could give a rats ass what format the mail I receive is in, just want to view it quickly and the way it was sent.

If the programmers hate or don’t trust html mail, that’s cool and understandable – But why ignore it? The Bat has been getting rave reviews for years and lack of html has always been noted…

Anyway, again, thanks for the input

I don't see them ignoring it. Just by default it doesn't display html mails. If you enable viewing html mails they do get displayed just fine AS LONG as no external files are used in the message (mostly pictures). These are not shown for security reasons. If you look at the problem other mail clients have had with their html viewer and external files in html files you would understand. This is a very strong and IMO very sensible security protection, since the mail client does ONLY connect to your mail ISP and no other site on the internet. When you decide that you trust the writer of the html mail you can also double click the html file (it always gets shown as an attachement) and it gets opened in your default browser and the browser will load the external images.

Sigh – Talking in circles here dude. You basically just covered everything I already did…

As noted above: I do not want to open email in a browser and am fully capable of handling my own security….

I have deleted Neil's post. It was entirely incorrect in everything it said bar his own preferences. Mostly, it was unhelpful and spiteful.

The HTML support will be revamped in the next version against the wishes of the core user group, who have always maintained pressure to keep HTML reading harmless. Many images in HTML are simply veiled tracking cookies.

Yes, TheBat! has always been, to a degree, "behind the market" in the level of their HTML support, aiming instead at producing the most powerful email tool ever. And in this, they succeeded.

As Marek has stated above, V4 will seek to redress the balance and introduce HTML support as the (now) majority wish to see it.

These forums work much better if postings are fact and not personal fiction ;)

I fully support the efforts to retain some control standards and most of all security.  As it is html features seem to invent new things to impress the young and help the bad guys.

The one thing I would like, however, is the ability to re-size text using CTRL and mouse wheel.  It seems as thing stand you have to read whatever size was originally used. Changing text size must surely be of no potential risk.  Or is there a way to enlarge text for those whose eye sight is not so good?
