Problem of V4.0.11 using socks!

The previous version 3.01 of the Bat using socks proxy is very good. Now I found that the new version 4.0.11 cann't use it to receive and send email. Could you tell me what I shpould setup the socks software?

what SOCKS app are You using? Anything in TB's log when connecting via socks?

I wrote this thread:

http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/read.php?FID=4&TID=5767

NO reply from TheBat in this thread.

I also opened a support ticket. I was replied the following:

" I guess now V4 doesn't allow connection hooking from other software.
I'll send info to developers and let's see what can be done."

That looks very bad and I suspect that the developers do NOT want we use Thebat with proxies: Why wouldn't they integrate the possibility to use a proxy (socks or other) in the config of the software, as Thunderbird does for example?

I requested it earlier (Look at the date!!!)

I think you should seriously consider to implement a possibility to connect through a proxy, at the account level. Other mail software now allow this.

and guess what? NEVER received ANY reply.

MAYBE the Support team could reply, to a customer that purchased a license despite it is EASY to find cracks and patches?

Socks are in wishlist, but I am not sure, this is easy to implement...

I have asked what socks app You are using, it is not included nor here nor in report You linked. I have not any report from czech or slovak users about socks problem, I can check this, but You must describe what are You using and how.

BTW is it really easy to find cracks?

I use SocksCap from permeo.com but there are many other software that help to use socks. I can also install a sock server on a box I rent anywhere in the world.

THE feature that makes TheBat "bad" is that you can not implement a proxy to connect to the mail box. Did you look at Thunderbird? It is in the options, you can write that you want the software to connect to for example 127.0.0.1 on the port 1090.
It would be even better if that would be an ACCOUNT option (each mailbox can be checked with or without proxy!).

I think it isn't hard to implement, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Thunderbird, Pegasus etc etc have this.

About cracks? Sure it is easy. I use TheBat since the beginning of your company and decided to pay a license "only" about 4 years ago when I decided to use the token system. I just looked around, patches for the version 3 are easy to find. Not yet for the v4 :)

Anyway there will always be cracks and patches, but if your soft is very good, people will buy it. Like I did, but now as this proxy feature is really hurting me, I will probably move to Thunderbird :(

Module for working with Sockets was completely rewritten, but nobody reported problem with SocksCap, I have asked some users who use SocksCap and using 4.0.14 already, they did not reported anything, so I fear, this is a specific problem.

AFAIK using socks for POP3/SMTP is a very different than HTTP, support for HTTP (downloading images to HTML) is implemented in The Bat! 4.0.

About cracks, I think this is impossible to use them in 4.0, because there is an exe integrity checking implemented - if will be an exe changed by virus for example, file will be not started and system will not be infected by it.

btw I have Pegasus installed and it has no Socks support, as I know. Where did You set it?

You did not described OS, what version are You using?

Please enter Transport setting of account in The Bat!, I mean mailserver, user, connection, port

I am using Win XP with SP2.

The Transport settings do not allow to connect THROUGH a proxy. They say where is the mailbox located. Thunderbird has this setting (pop server, port etc) PLUS a proxy setting. There, I enter 127.0.0.1 on port 9050 for example and that's it. I can also run Thunderbird through Sockscap, no problem at all.

Yes sorry for Pegasus, I used it through SocksCap.

Currently I am back on 3.99.29 through SocksCap, I confirm what I wrote: On the v4 copy (registered with my v3 license), launched through SocksCap, all connections are made DIRECTLY to the mail servers and do NOT go through SocksCap. I was very susprised to see this, uninstalled all (including SocksCap!), reinstalled all with a test mailbox, tested SocksCap with another software to be sure the problem didn't come form here, even tried on another computer: SAME problem, Thebat v4 connects directly :(

About cracks, well... You know that the perfect protection does not exist. If there is an integrity checking, well, the cracker will just remove it or force the result of the check. The 1st cracks should come quickly as TheBat is a popular program.

For people reading the thread: I received a message saying that the the TB team confirms the bug and is working on it. Good :)

The new version of The Bat! will support http proxy to check for new version and download images, as will as SOCKS4 proxy for IMAP4, POP3 and SMTP.

The native support of SOCKS4 in The Bat! will allow to refrain from using SocksCap.

SocksCap doesn't support the new TCP/IP (WinSock) API used by The Bat! since V4, but the native support of SOCKS4 in The Bat! will resolve this issue.
