Bug - deleting messages

Sometimes a 'deleting messages' popup displays and then stays open with a full progress bar. This only closes on exit of the program. David

Someone could be using it for years, have no trouble, plenty of space and no need to either empty trash nor compress folders so the question needs to be asked.

I do not normally have 'compress folders on exit' checked, but I've just tried that and it seemd to improve the situation slightly. However, after deleting about 5 messages from my inbox it starts to slow right down again. The OS definitely hasn't been overloaded when I've experienced the problem.
