How to import mail from multiple folders on a remote account?

Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I searched and didn't find anything. I am in the process of setting up multiple accounts in The Bat (v.4.0.18). Some of these accounts are new, and so there's no problem, but for the older ones, that have multiple folders of email all still on the server, how can I get them out and into the proper local folders? For example, I'd like all my mail in the "Sent mail" folder on my mail server to go to my "Sent mail" folder in The Bat. Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this?

Thank you,
Bill

Each theBat folder is in fact two files named MESSAGES.TBB (this is the important one, the message base) and MESSAGES.TBI.
(if you use encrypted message base extensions are different)

So to move the messages in a given folder from server to some PC, just copy these two files from server "Sent mail" folder to PC "Sent mail" folder.
This way you can copy not only messages in a given folder but also entire accounts(with their filters, address books etc) - by just moving the whole account folder.

The physical folder structure of theBat mail folder matches exactly the account/folder structure you see in theBat.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I do not have The Bat installed on the server. I use a Squirrel Mail web interface to use my email, and I want to set up a bat account to take its place. So you see, there are no files like you mention on the server because thebat isn't installed there.

The only thing I can think of it to do it by hand -- mark email in different folders as new through the web interface, move them into the inbox, then download/delete them, and do this for each folder. Kind of a pain, though, and I was hoping it would be easier, somehow to be allowed to just specify a folder that exists on the server and take mail only from there.

What database format were you using with squirrel mail? It's default is unix mailbox (I learned that from their site) TB is able to import from unixe mailbox format.
( Tools -> Import messages -. From Unix-mailboxes )
Unfortunately I can't find the path to to the message base in their documentation (I guess that might be configurable) so you neeed to look for a directory or a file with a name like Sent or Sent Mail.

Yes, I saw that import from Unix-mailboxes option in The Bat but it was grayed out, so I could not try it. Maybe that's because I'm still using the evaluation license?

That's not because of the trial version, but because a unix mailbox contains a single folder, therefore it doesn't contain any references to folder name.
as TB doesn't know the folder name, you've got to tell TB the intended destination folder.
The way to do that is by selecting the folder you want to import the messages. When the import options are grayed out you've selected the targetaccount and not the target folder.
