Version 4 - cannot open attachments

After upgrading to V4, I found that the common attachments (like Word, Excel ...) cannot be opened directly from Bat as before (the clicking is dead), but one has only to save them somewhere else. Quite annoying it is ... Why this happens ?

I haven't encountered that with any of the v4 versions I've used. What version are you using? What options do you get on clicking with the right mouse button on the attachment?

I use the latest version 4.020 and I actually cannot directly open any attachments (including pictures etc.). Clicking twice on the attachment does nothing (in 3.99 it immediately opened). Clicking right gives all the options (open, save etc.). Choosing "open" (ctrl+enter) does NOTHING, be it in the preview pane or in the fully open message. Very strange, but it is so ...

What slections have you set at:
Options -> Preferences -> Protection -> Deny opening of these files:
You could reset what you've got there, that's supposed to reset it to executables

There are no extensions in the "deny" field. In the "allow" field there are lot of file types but not .doc, .xls, .tiff, .pdf, .rar etc. Does it mean that they were not transfered during the upgrade (before I could open them all) and now they are not in the list ? I will try to add something manually to see what happens

I added .doc, .xls, .pdf atd. extensions to the list of "allowed" files. No help - they cannot be opened even after restarting the Bat ...

There should be something in the deny field. Something's gone corrupt I guess.
The allow field contains the file types that can be opened without a warning. (like 'this message may contain blablabla') It isn't necessary for a file type to be listed there in order to be opened.

I suggest that you use the reset button all three fields. Press OK and close and restart TB.

When that doesn't remedy the problem.
Close TB and start Regedit (the Windows registry editor) and search for the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!\ProtectDisableOpen
and delete the key, not just the contents, but the key.
Now close regedit and start TB again and reset the deny field again.

It did not help - I did all of what you suggested. When I open the Bat a try to open any attachment I get an error message "cannot access the directory C/USERS/IVO/APPDATA/LOCAL/TEMP/BAT  Access denied. Since then, clicking on any attachment is dead. Only jpg are opened, nothing else. But if I let any of the attachments save, they are saved and I can open them from the saved location

Now we've got something to work with.

Is there a directory C:\Users\Ivo\Appdata\Local\Temp\bat ? (Over here on Vista Premium it's being created on demand and deleted when TB closes down.) When it exists, are there a lot of files present?
Are you logged on to Windows as Ivo?
Are you running some virus scanner that blocks the creation of new directories?

This directory is not there (just checked). I am on Vista Business. I am logged as Ivo (Administrator). ANtivirus - I don´t think so: NOD 32. But the basic thing is that in 3.99 everything was working normally and nothing else (except Bat upgrade) was changed since then. But the attachments must be somewhere since they can be saved and opened.

The attachments are stored in the message base, but in order to open them TB stores them in temp/bat to pass them through to other programs.

Somehow TB can't create temp/bat and I haven't got a clue why that might be.
The only thing I can think of is to uninstall TB and install it again. (This won't delete your message base.)
