Common folders (Inbox, Sent etc.) for all my emails?, Please no separate folders for each email, problem in switching from OE

Hello everybody :-)

I would like to switch to TB from OE6. That´s why I have downloaded the trial-version of TB to get to know how TB works etc. I do think about buying some licences of TB for my colleagues and for my family.

TB looks really great but I cannot use to have basic files as Inbox, Sent etc. separated for each of my email accounts. I have got 10 emails and I prefer to sort email into other special folders.

When developing some other update or upgrade, could you please add a possibility to choice for every user if he preferres to have separate "basic" folders for each account OR if he preferres to have one common Inbox, Sent etc. for all his accounts?

I have been using Outlook Express for 8-9 years and I do not want to get used to other style of working with those basic files  :( You know that OE uses common files for all emails . I am used to use rather difficult structure of specific files and subfiles - so I need more place in the part when files display.

Thunderbird has this option so that each user could choose what he preferres. I know that there some other users who prefer the same as me. Please can you think this suggestion over?

While trying to switch from OE6 to TB, I have been missing another feature: TB cannot take over the settings of my emails so it is necessary to put down everything again including servers, username, domain, password etc. This is not comfortable  :(

TB can import messages and address book but not the settings of users email accounts. Can you please solve it somehow sometimes?

Thank you in advance for considering these suggestions :-)

I was very uncomfortable when I first tried TB for the same reasons! :{} don't worry you can set it up any way you want but it will take some learning to unlock the powerful features

You are probably not going to be able to import your ACCOUNTS but you will be able to be able to get the messages over. I know you can drag messages out of IE. Try dragging from IE and dropping into a folder in the Bat - see if it works. If not drop them in a windows folder THEN drag them into the Bat (Yes you can use the TOOLS / IMPORT MESSAGES feature but this will make the job faster :)

Next - you didn't want to deal with separate inboxes. The best way to handle this is to make a Virtual folder and have it view all the inboxes (you select them) The messages stay in the separate inboxes but you view them in the virtual folder as if they were all in one folder.

If you don't like that you can make a regular folder and move all mail into it as it arrives. Create a regular folder then ACCOUNT / SORTING OFFICE and create a filter that moves all messages to that folder
Try the virtual folder first though - :)

Hello Rick, thanks for your answer. Well I can imagine creating any type of common folder and making the rules. I believe it can work. But a lot of separate folders for each account will not disapper and they keep taking place  in my display :(
We all know that there are some other good and free alternative mail clients. That is why we say to myself: OK, we are really willing to pay for all the neccessary licences of The Bat! - but we would like TB to work the way we need it!
We do think that this requirement is not any special. Common folders exist in many other mailing SW. I think that users of paid TB could have a chance to choose what they prefer  :!:

The accounts aren't going away. The best thing is to move all the folders ABOVE them then close their individual trees.

I don't understand what you are doing where you think you need many licenses for The Bat unless you have many computers (?)

You can have different emails in different windows profiles or, as my wife and I do using the same login use the filters to move our separate emails to folders

Well every member of our family has its own PC so that we would have to buy licences for each of the PC´s. If we are satisfied with TB we keep considering to buy TB licences for our business PC´s in our firm.

Yes it seems to be the only solution by now but I do not like it very much  :|

The problem is that due to some specific historical reasons each of us uses more email addresses. Of course each of us has one "main" or "basic" email. But for some reasons it is not possible to get rid of those old emails. That is why each of us needs to download emails from more email addresses - from 10 or even more.
I guess you wonder why we do have so many emails  8) The cause is that the evolution of internet and emails in our countries was rather wild and many people had to change their emails and to obtain new ones because some providers had problems etc.

I'd use the filter advice and move every incoming mail into one common folder then. Or set up more advanced filters right away so every incoming email will be filtered into different common folders like "friends", "buisness", "ebay" and so on ... and only messages that don't get filtered by the other filters get moved into one folder.

My advice, use an email account that is not tied to your ISP (like gmail, yahoo or many others, choose one that is bound to be around for some time)) for personal mail, another for busniess or just "unpersonal" mail.
Then contact everyone that is using your old email addresses to use these two email addresses instead. Forum accounts need to be changed and so on but in the end it's worth it to shorten the addresses list.

OR what I'm doing with some addresses, gmail for example has the feature that lets gmail collect mails from other addresses. I let it do so for some and thus I don't need an extra account in TB!. Also gmail's spam filter is, at least in my case, so good that almost every spam messages gets filtered out before I even have to download it into TB!.

I have 12 accounts collecting email in The Bat with no problem. I keep them at the bottom of the folder tree as I, like Eva don't care to work on a "per account" basis (some people wouldn't work any other way!)

If you build your folder tree above the accounts you will soon not even notice them.

Eva, there is a lot of power here that is not in other programs. It is worth experimenting for a bit
