Outbox, Sent messages remain in the outbox

Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, messages which are sent are not being moved from the outbox to the sentbox. This means that each time The Bat checks for new mail, the messages are sent again, and again, and again....
Also, the edit box does not close (even though the messages are sent) and the new message remains active on the screen.
Any thoughts on this?
So far not much of a response from The Bat team...

Check the physical folders

<mail folder>\<account name>\Outbox
<mail folder>\<account name>\Sent

and make sure folders of files inside don't have read-only attribute set.
If not, try closing theBat and deleting all the files in Outbox physical folder, then see if the problem is gone.

Check outgoing filters, you may have changed something by mistake.

Also check the account log and make sure the messages have really been going out  :!:

If there is any kind of problem try viewing the messages on the server and clearing the problem that way

In case the messages are really sent, performe folder maintenance on your messages base (all folders) and check for any coruption.
What version are you using?
What version were you using when you first encountered this problem?

When you send a message to yourself, do you receive multiple copies?

Thanks people, biut I've done all you suggest and it still has the problem. And yes, the messages are going, as I've been receiving those I send to myself. I've done folder maintenance.
Roelof, I'm using v4.0.24 and I was using that version when the problem first appeared. And yes, I receive copies of messages sent to myself until I delete the message from the outbox.
