Why so many bats in Task manager, The bat is eating my memory!

Why are there so many Bat processes running in task manager and consuming memory? Why don't they go away after I have shut down the program?
The Bat is really consuming memory and making me reconsider this program. I've used it for years and love the ability to check multiple accounts at once but this bug (and some others) are just about too annoying to keep using it!
Help?

Can't confirm what you discribe. When TB is running I've got two applics with a bat icon and I've always thought that one of them was my anti-virus plugin. When the CC start, another icon gets visible, but it closes with the CC(that'll stay visible if you're using IMAP).

When TB shuts down every related process in the taskmanager is shutting down.

I'm using the latest version under Vista.

I've got only one instance in the processes list and that disapperas when I shut down TB.

I end up with four or five processes--especially if I exit the bat and restart it later. It never actually shuts down the process.

What version are you using?

it looks like theBat doesn't exit when you close it but just disappears. The next time you start it you have one more process and so on.

Never happened to me, don't know why it happens, and this is not a solution but a workaround. But it will at least save memory as only one instance will run.

Get pskill.exe from www.sysinternals.com and put it in \System32 folder. Then make a .bat file with the following commands

::-------------------------
pskill thebat.exe
cd "C:\Program Files\The Bat!"
start thebat.exe /NOLOGO
::-------------------------

start theBat with the above .bat file, not directly. It will first terminate any running instances, and then start a new one.

Are you using IMAP protocol? If yes, could you please try using a new version: http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/beta/tb40348.rar , and let us know the results?

I had the exact problem you describe. It turned out to be Avast Antivirus, which must have installed an email virus protection plugin the last time it updated itself a few weeks ago.

Check whether you have an entry for Avast in Preferences|Virus/Trojan Alert|Anti-Virus. If so, remove it (I couldn't remove it from within The Bat, because it crashed every time I tried, but the problem with phantom Bat processes in the Task Manager disappeared when I manually deleted the AvBatEx.bav file that Avast had written into my mail directory.

I noticed over several months ago that TheBat! would show two instances in the Applications tab but I never noticed multiple instances in Processes.

But today with TheBat! running, I'm seeing NO instances of TheBat! in Applications unless I open another window (create or edit a mail, addressbook, etc.) or hover the mouse pointer over a button and get a popup tooltip.
