Inboxes not showing up after conversion to new 4.1, files are still there !!

Hello there,

I installed the new bat! 4.1 and did the mistake of doing so without taking the backup . Out of 15 accounts after the file conversion wizard showed up , , I am facing problem with 4 accounts ,where the tbb file still stands at the normal file size ,and during the folder maintenance , it shows the correct size of the file .

what should i do now ? Is there any way to get the msgs backup ?

best regards,

"Inboxes not showing up" means there is no Inbox folder at all, or that it's empty?

If the former, try manually creating Inbox folder, or click the account in the left pane and press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+L
If the latter, close theBat and move .tbb file to another physical folder. Then start it, click Inbox folder and then try
Tools -> Import messages -> From....v2(.TBB)
Try also Folder -> Browse deleted messages

First zip the whole mail folder just in case.

Funny..  After installing 4.1.7 the "Maintenance" function found nearly 4000 duplicate emails (releasing about 1 Gig or hard-disk space) and 2 damaged folders.  I did a "Maintenance" just prior to upgrading and found no duplicates and all my folders were ok..

Having said that, I do not seem to have lost any emails that I have noticed yet.

As always..  back up everything before upgrading - just in case..

so is your mail folder now really about 1 Gig smaller, or this was a false info from theBat?

bigg one:  Good question..  sorry but I cannot answer this easily.  I have about 35Gb of email stored in the Bat across several directories.  I cannot tell if I have really saved that much memory.

check home directory where are accounts on drive, find folders where You see no messages and rename TBN (or EBN) files. Then restart TB and check these folders, TB will create these index files from TBB (EBB) again.

I have a similar problem to this. Sometimes nothing shows up in the folder views, it just says "no messages".

If I close TB and open it again, it goes back to normal and I can see all the messages. I don't know what causes it, but it did happen after I used the search function once.

It's better to delete the index files to get the message back. Just delete .TBI and .TBN. Under OTFE, it is .EBI and .EBN.

I confirm this is some sort of bug. I upgraded to 4.1.7 from 4.0.x. First run after upgrade, I got some strange message about running older program again version over already converted new message format (still, Help -> About showed 4.1.7). About only half of my first account folders showed numbers for messages. This repeated about 2-3 times with some more accounts showing numbers each run, then the message disappeared.

Few hours later I noticed that the main Inbox folder was empty for 8 out of my 9 accounts. Interestingly, all subfolders in Inbox as well as other folders were OK. With the procedure above (delete .TBN), I was able to "recover" 7 out of 8 accounts, but one account actually seemed to have lost the data completely - messages.tbb had only about 3kB and of course no messages inside.

Luckily, I was able to recover that Inbox from autobackup and the rest of the mesasges got donwloaded from server again.

Next time I would very much appreciate if upgrade run autobackup automatically before messing up with the message bases. If I hadn't configured to keep the messages on server for some time, I would have lost some important data.

I also have similar problem after the upgrade, all old messages (read or unread) are not shown in one of my inbox folder. I know that all those old messages still be there as the number of message exists. There is not any TBI or TBN files left. I have open a support ticket and still waiting their solution.

It has not done it lately for me. It seems to be some kind of problem with the conversion process which fixes itself after a few cycles of compacting the folders.
