After printing one email The Bat! then won't print any more

Just evaluating the Bat! pro 4.17 and have noticed that it only prints one email and then refuses to print any more.

If I select "message/print" from an email I get the print box showing the available printer and clicking OK performs a print.

If I then do the same with any other email I don't get the print box, instead, after selecting print the email closes and nothing happens.

The only way I can print another email is to shut down and restart the Bat!

Any ideas on this one? I can confirm the problem is purely with the bat! I have no problem printing with any other application including Eudora.

Printing an email after opening the bat works fine, it brings up the print box where I can select a printer (I only have one) and clicking OK prints. But then if I open another email and select print the email closes and nothing happens. The email does not get sent to the printer cue, no error message appears.

Only restarting the bat! will allow me to print another email - but only one again.

I tried to reproduce your problem, but I can't.
So it appears to be something in your setup.

Could you show your printing template and other print settings?

Many thanks Roelof. I appreciate your help. This is currently the only thing stopping me registering.

I haven't changed anything on the printing template and in fact whilst fixing another issue I deleted my user.def file this morning and forced the creation of a new one. I also reinstalled the Bat! yesterday whilst trying to fix the other problem so everything should be default.

The only other information I can think of is I'm printing to a home network wireless printer. As I said before I can print all day with any application but the Bat only prints one then doesn't even bring up the print window.

I was had this same frustrating problem for a long time.  Here is a solution (copied here to this forum from my trouble ticket):

I tried to reopen my old ticket on this subject, but could not figure out how to edit it or add a new message.

I have information that I think leads to finding the bug:  On the Preferences | General screen, I had a check mark set for the "Close the separate viewer parent when replying/forwarding" item.  Although not stated in that text, this choice also controls whether or not the viewer parent is closed after printing a message.

Today I was wondering if this might be linked to my long-standing problem of being able print only one message once per TheBat! session.  Removing the check mark and clicking OK does allow me to print as many times as I wish to.  Also, after setting the check mark again, I can still print as often as I wish to.  So, the bug is somehow related to this, although I don't know what triggered the problem in the first place.

I am uncertain whether the problem will return after I reboot (with the check mark set), but if so I will let you know.

Nice one Larry. Spot on. That's done the trick. Hopefully Roelof can replicate this issue now. It's clearly a bug or unexpected consequence.

This setting is not enabled by default but I found it annoying that after replying to an email it left a copy open which needed closing. I found by enabling this box when I clicked reply to it didn't open a second copy of the email and after sending the original email remained closed which is how I want it.

Clearly the setting shouldn't also close the print box which totally disables printing after one print.

I enabled this setting and restarted TB, but still can't reproduce the error.

Strange. I have installed the Bat! 4.1 on my laptop down stairs and it does exactly the same thing.

If you select the option - general/ "close the separate viewer parent window when replying/forwarding" box then the Bat! closes the print option window after printing the first email so that if you want to print further emails selecting print again does nothing but close the email you want to print. The only way to print any other emails is to close the Bat! and reopen whereupon you can print just one more email before the print box no longer opens.

Yes! I've got it reproduced.

I enabled: Options -> Preferences -> General -> Close the separate viewer parent window when replying/forwarding
I closed TB
Started it again
Opened a message by double clicking
(As I always read my messages in the preview, I've never done that before and it's essential for the reproduction of the error)
Print the message via:
Message -> Print

First message is printing fine, second only closes the view folder window, but doesn't print.

Like I said, you need to view the message in the view folder window to encounter this bug. Best way to avoid this bug is by reading your stuff in the preview.
