Update (differential) backups not working, after upgrade to v4.1.x

Update (differential) backups are not working after I upgraded to v4.1.11. I was using lots of different versions before and I never had any problem with backups in any Bat version, but in v 4.1.11. differential backups just don't work, and that is very important feature for me...

It just stuck on some random folder, so I have to click cancel on the backup window and after I click cancel it reports error message "Thread Error: Access Denied (5)"

Please help.

Does RitLabs have any kind of support?

There is no answer here for 45 days, and I also submited ticket 30 days ago, and I still havent received any responce...???

this is a user forum so don't expect a reply fr om Ritlabs here.
This seems to be a bug, so options are either to downgrade to a previous version where that feature used to work, or to wait for the next version where it'll be hopefully fixed, meanwhile using another backup method.

Have encountered the same problem, as I also used differential backups regularly between full backups prior to v 4.1.11.

To get around the problem I have resorted to using full backups always. However I have found that while these backups normally complete, not all of them are useable to restore if you need to.

I now check the backup by doing a restore in a virtual machine. I revert to the snapshot in the VM with TB Pro waiting to be initialised and input the backup to check whether it is good or not and can be restored. It is a mighty lot of effort for something that could be expected to function, but at least I know it will work.

simply zip or rar the entire mail folder (when theBat is closed) and you have a full backup.
In case of a problem, delete the mail folder and restore the one from the backup. You can also restore a single corrupt message base etc.
This backup method is simpler, and far more reliable than using the built in backup tool.

That is now more than 2 months ago and still without any responce to my ticket. That's what worries me...

I also can't downgrade to v4.0 as you suggested because v4.1 storage is not compatibile with v4.0.

well I have no relations with Ritlabs, no response in 2 months worries me as well as another user of an app with obviously not that good support.

You may resubmit your ticket, but anyway your options are to either downgrade to a previous 4.1.x version where that feature works (if such version exists at all), or to use another backup method.

Another backup method could be a full backup generated by theBat, or a backup made by simple archiving of the mail folder or desired portions of it.

The latter is to be preferred, as it's far far more reliable. I've seen here tons of complaints about problems with theBat generated backups. Obviously that feature is heavily problematic, and will probably remain like that - so just don't use it, and the problem disappears.

I also added another post to that ticket, and that also didn't helped... I see there that ticket is assigned to someone but he obviously does not wan't to respond to it. I was just expecting some bug confirmation, or something like "thanks for report we will look into it", but not a ticket without any responce...

Thanks for suggestion, I am using another backup method, actually I rsync mail folder because it is huge, and that is working fine, but still I like that built-in backup and it worked for me fine for years, without any problem.

For what it's worth, I too have the same problem, same error message.
