I Mail received then The Bat! disappears, I receive 1 email from server then the bat crashes

HI...When receiving emails the first comes through OK but then The Bat! program crashes with no error messages etc. I've checked the log but can's see anything there. I've just reinstalled XP & SP2 and used the restore function to recover all my emails from another disk partition...can anyone help?

P.S. I'm using avast 4 Home AntiVirus.

Thanks

Are you using any plug-ins? What happens when you disable those?
What TB version are you using?
How many accounts, POP3 or IMAP?

You're downloading the first message, is that the same message every time? In that case the second message might be a virus or have a faulty structure (though it would be buggy for TB to choke on that). This could be solved by deleting the second message via the mail dispatcher:
Account -> Dispatch mail on server

Hi... 8)

OK...when I uninstall the bat and recreate the accounts
manually then the emails download as per normal.
However, if I reinstall the bat and then restore my
backups the problem reoccurs. I've tried folder maintenance which found one problem but I can still only download one email before the Bat crashes. This is not specific to an individual email but affects any email which is second in the queue for download.
I have 3 POP3 accounts set up. No additional Plugins other than what's installed by default. Switching off AntiVirus & Firewalls makes no difference. I'll have to confirm version number as I'm doing this away from my PC at the moment.
Thanks

In that case, drop the BayesIt plug-in (anti-spam) that was causing problems for me. When that solves the problem, you can install the latest version of that plug-in (somewhere on this site), because that's way better.

OK thanks Roelof... The BayesIt plugin didn't seem to be installed and restoring the mailbox again still indicates the bayesIt plugin wasn not installed. I've just imported 3 emails I sent out to myself so hopefully the problems gone. On another matter...one of by backup files is reporting that it's not restorable...is their some sort of fix I can use to repair a damamged or corrupt backup file?
Thanks

Not that I'm aware of. However, if you've got a plain copy (not made with TB's back-up) you can easily place that back.

I never use TB's internal back-up, IMO it's the weakest part of the program. When I make back-ups I prefer something that can be run from the commandline (and/or the scheduler)

I'm also having the same problem! When this happen I use the mail dispatcher instead and download them one by one and manually deleting them from the server. (Ctrl-Shift-F2).

The crash is getting unbearable.

I also experienced the exact anomally after upgrading to version 3.0.1.33. I tried reinstalling, with a short-lived success. I disabled virus checkers, etc. I installed the newest BayesIt, with no change.
I finally disabled BayesIt, and everything worked as it should. I realize you said the BayesIt plug-in wasn't installed, but that was definately the root the problem that I fought for many weeks.

I've disabled my BayesIt plugin too and for now, no crashes yet. Crossing my fingers. Thanks George for the info!
