multiple email adresses for one name in adress book, is there any way to separate them?

New and newbie question - but something tells me I'm asking for a new feature in the bat.

I have a lot of people in my address book with both an adress at work, and an address at home... Sometimes I have to send them a message on one of both, but not neccesarily on the other. Is there any way to separate those adresses? (E.g. preferred, first alternative, second alternative... And preferably a drop out menu in the new message where instead of now the name with all the adresses, the name would open new menu where I can choose which one?) Currently, they are comma separated in the email field - so they get my emails twice.

Secondary, is it possibile to make groups in groups in your adress book? Don't seem to get it working, though it would be nice.

Third, if 2 works, would it be possibile to make "virtual entries", referring people in other groups, but so you could add people to a lot of groups.

That's my bedtime story for tonight  . Tnxs for reading ;-)

You can't separate addresses within one address book (AB) entry. The only way to handle those addresses individually is to make separate AB entries for all addresses.

It is possible to make groups in your address book. Contacts can belong to multiple groups, without any relations between those groups. Like this: you and your brother both play soccer, so he's in your soccer AB group like all of your team mates. Your other brother hates soccer, so he isn't in that AB group. But both of your brothers are in the AB group brothers.
You can do all kind of things with AB groups, like use them as filter conditions or as addressee.

so making levels in groups is also not possibile?

I don't know what you mean with levels in groups. But you can create a group and add a part of the group to another group and use that as another level.

But as I'm not sure what you'd like to achieve...

basically, I'd like to be able to do 3 things (with the levels in groups):

1. get a hierarchical menu in the new message selection; for example new > work > project x; new > work > project y. This cleans up things a bit when using lots of groups or lot of adresses in your new message list.
2 Having a tree-style classification in your adress book makes it much easier to manage every adress hiding in there.
3. Since you cannot diverse between different adresses for one contact, I could make a group called "John Doe" with John doe work, John doe home, John doe the one his wife doesn't check ...

1. get a hierarchical menu in the new message selection; for example new > work > project x

That isn't possible with TB, you won't get further than  new > projectX

that's why I'm complaining/making suggestions about it  ;). To my notice, The Bat is one of the most advanced email solutions available. Especially the email part is wonderfull... But I don't experience this degree of sofistication within the adress book. Not that it is bad, just that in my opinion, it is not up to par with the rest of the program...
