Migrating TheBat 3.85.03 from Win XP home to Win 7 64 bit, Always problems when I need to move to a new computer!

I do have a .tbk backup file from my current installation on my Xp machine.  The program is installed in c:\program files\the bat! on my Xp system.  On my win 7 64 bit machine, win 7 refuses to allow me to choose the c:\Program Files\ folder to let me install in so the folder structure matches that of my old configuration - it forces it to be installed into the c:\Program Files(x86)\ folder even when I choose custom in the installer and choose c:\Program Files\ - it just goes right back to saying it will be installed in c:\Program Files(x86)\ .  I know the bat is fussy and always wants the whole folder structure to be the same when installing to a new computer.  The problem comes when it asks to import the backup during the install process.  The backup file is large - 3.7 GB as it includes one very large attachment folder for one of the accts (many pictures).  I check off all mail accts to import, then I get all kinds of error messages as it starts to read the file.  In win 7 it does not seem to want to allow you to add anything to c:\Program Files even though I have set the permissions to allow writing to it (default is read only).  But when I install to the c:\Program Files(x86)\ thebat seems to be looking for the original folder structure c:\Program Files\ and when it can't find it, it won't import the data.  At least that seems to be what's happening.  I have gotten the same result whether I use my old version of your newest version.

First error message I get while trying to import when installing your most current version:  "error reading file c:\8-19-2010.tbk"
after hitting ok:
"error reading file c:\8-19-2010.tbk
TBckProcessThread.GetDataList"

and that's as far as I get with the import.  The program goes on to open showing all of my accounts but of course no mail in any of it.  I also then get a message I think when it tries to check for mail that says "Cannot access directory c:\program files\the bat!\mail which is the folder structure from the old computer I assume which is being read from parts of the backup.  Since the program is looking for the old folder structure but it is not installed in that folder structure because it forces itself into c:\Program Files(x86)\ and won't allow me to install the bat into c:\Program Files\ on the win 7 machine, it can't import any data or run right.

I still have access to all original TBB files etc on my old computer if I need them.

Is the backup file from v 3.85.03 compatible with 4.2.36.4?  Or is it the folder structure problem?

Some of the Mail Transport options are filled in for some accts, some not - looks random.  So it brings in just a few things.  The accts are also not in the same order as my old program even though the backup is fresh.

HELP me find the best way to proceed to restore the mail.

Additionally, if I install into c:\Program Files(x86)\ and pull the whole mail folder from the old computer into the new one and place it under the bat folder, I can fudge things so that it does bring in all the mail, but I am not able to view the previous attachments as it cannot find the folder structure  c:\program files\the bat!\mail\(acct name)\attach since the program isn't installed into c:\program files\

I can live with this install if there is some way I can access the old attachments.  There is some instruction in the old files that is specifying this!

Ouch! the forum ate my previous post.
TB v4.1 has a different index file than the previous versions, therefore backups from v4.0 and before can't be used by v4.1 and later.
Unistall TB on your new system
Install the version that created your backup (if you don't have that anymore, I can help)
Restore the backup, TB's current default for the maildir is %Appdata%\The Bat! you can change that into whatever you like.
Instaall the latest version on top of the old version, TB will convert the message base

Last time I tried to install the old version it says there are known compatibility issues and it cannot install.  Please read my last message over again carefully.  It refers to the lack of ability to view attachments since the folder structure does not match what the old one was in.

Try to install the latest version on your old system, create a backup and restore that at your new system.
Currently you can view the old attachments via the explorer, but the link between message and attachment is gone.

If you read the post, it says I already have the new version running on the new machine with the mail in it, I just need to open old attachments.  If I were to have been able to install it into the same folder name as in the old computer c:\program files\ would it read the attachments in the new install?
